Jeff Goodman is reporting that Lavin and St. John's have parted ways.

“Even though I’m not playing I still don’t want my school to be disrespected, because I play for the name on the front of my chest, not the name on my back. I’m a part of this family now, and when they disrespected them they disrespected me”-Mo Watson Jr.

And Boom goes the dynamite.

I think it's best for the school. Too much inconsistency, despite talented classes, from Lavin the last few years. When his teams were on, they were really fun to watch. Other times it was like watching a group of kids play basketball together for the first time. He excelled at bringing in talented kids, he just couldn't really get them to compliment one another.

Mark Jackson would be my top pick.

The early word is that St. John's will make a run at Chris Mullins, sources told ESPN.

Masiello makes the most sense to replace Lavin.

Unless Billy Donovan can be convinced to move.

surprising. I am all for having consistency. I'm not convinced whoever replaces him will be an automatic upgrade, unless they make a homerun hire.

Ya i don't know how to feel about this. St Johns needed a guy who could go out and replace all the guys who they were losing and Lavin is the type of recruiter who could do that. Unless they have a home run hire already lined up than this could be a bad move

interesting thought:

Note: the new St. John's President used to work under/is still close with David Roselle -- who was President of UK when Rick Pitino coached.

could mean 2 names-
1- Masiello
2- Richard Pitino from Minnesota

My buddy is friends with Lavin, said Lavin says SJU has Mullin and Hurley (not sure which Hurley) waiting in the wings. Also heard that Mike Repole (vitamin water guy) is buddies with RICK (not Richard) Pitino and they are going HARD after him. I doubt that would happen but think it would be awesome if it did!

These administrators don't understand that a change like this sets your program back a couple of years. First, you'll probably lose at least one or more current recruits who were going to come because of the Lavin relationship. Next, it delays ongoing recruiting. This is not a good thing for the next few years.
