Heard it on the CBS evening news . Jim Boeheim will call it quits within the next 3 years.
The CBS news crew in NY must have a lot of Syracuse alumni.

lol...

and you know how all the Syracuse fans have been bragging saying we've got Hopkins replacing Boeheim....

Syracuse University Chancellor Kent Syverud this morning said there's been no decision on whether longtime assistant baseketball coach Mike Hopkins will succeed Jim Boeheim.

SU has long said publicly that Hopkins would be the next head coach whenever Boeheim stepped down. It's no longer the case that he's a lock for the job, Syverud said.

"This is not the time to answer that question," Syverud told Syracuse.com in a phone interview. "Mike is a great coach and a great person who's been very loyal to this university. I have great respect for him. But right now we have a head coach and we will for three years."

Syverud said it wouldn't be right to make a decision on Boeheim successor without talking to the new athletic director and Syracuse's board of trustees.

What a mess....

Why announce this at all if you are Syracuse/Boeheim? I can't see how this won't negatively impact recruiting.

He's holding a press conference right now just hours before ncaa tournaments tips off and is getting eviscerated on Twitter for it.

If Hopkins is still the anointed one, he should be able to talk to recruits about a smooth transition. Better than not telling anyone and then suddenly peacing out after their sophomore year or something.

Did he say "within" the next 3 years? That would be good, because a full 3 years is actually a long time.

I read within the next 3 years. Like the Creighton poster said above, why would Boeheim make that announcement now ? It won't be good for recruitment. I bet he'll retire next season.

Cuse may be the next program to start heading for some rough years after leaving the Big East. Calhoun retired from UConn and now Boatright graduates. Their Calhoun and old Big East aura is rubbing off. Hope the same happens with Cuse. Sell your soul for football, and there's a good chance your basketball will suffer.

He wanted to retire now but he stayed to fight the NCAA . He guaranteed at least 1 year as coach.
