Sounds very much like Howland is headed to Mississippi State.

cant say i'm surprised. With guys like Pearl there now, you knew Miss St would make a run at the top guy out there.

CBS says Howland was always considered a peripheral candidate and that their search is focused on Bryce Drew, Steve Masiello, and Dave Leitao.

Yup... THAT Dave Leitao.

Ouch, Mississippi State? That has to be one of the worst "high major" jobs there are......I'm assuming DePaul wasn't interested.

No, sounds like he wasn't interested:

Howland tried to get Marquette and Virginia Tech a year ago but to no avail. Miss State can pay him enough. Makes sense if it gets done.

Howland wanted a job at a major football school. Programs can flip quickly and move up in the SEC below Kentucky and normally Florida.

There is a good chance DePaul never reached to him since their AD is incompetent. They probably already negotiated with someone and currently working out the contract. If all goes well, we should hear a decision soon. But also dont be surprised as they stumble along and watch as the top candidates sign with other programs, the same that happened last coaching search.

Source I trust says DePaul and Bobby Hurley have mutual interest.

Drew or Hurley would be excellent choices.

Just say no to Corbin!!!

Hurley, Masiello, and Drew are the 3 best candidates IMO. You could throw Miller in there too but I believe he's fine at Dayton. I don't know much about them and I could be wrong about it but hiring either Aguirre, Strickland, Corbin, or Leitao would be a disaster. Need an experienced head coach who's also young and energetic and wants to wake this sleeping giant up. Chicago ties are nice but not absolutely needed. Just my 2 cents.
