According to Butler University website, our attendance was 7,373 for 16 home games.

And I looked up Marquette and DePaul, just because. They averaged 13,657 and 6,238. I'm not sure where you came up with your numbers.

For the record, Marquette's numbers are:

UT-Martin: 12,901
Omaha: 12,575
NJIT: 11,966
Wisconsin: 18,573
Arizona State: 12,736
Alabam A&M: 3,080 This game was not counted in our official attendance number due to an agreement with the NCAA. It was played at the 3,000 seat Al McGuire Center and season tickets were not honored.
North Dakota: 12,536
Morgan State: 12,701
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Providence: 15,134
Creighton: 13,069
Georgetown: 15,713
Seton Hall: 14,917
Butler: 15,342
Xavier: 12,833
Villanova: 17,961
St. John's: 14,201
DePaul: 15,923

Overall average minus AA&M: 14,318
With AA&M: 13,657
Conference: 15,010
Non-Conference: 13,427/12,134
This is my opinion. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

The 8,021 was the average for home conference games. Take out the two 9:00PM games (Providence and Creighton) and average attendance increases by about 600.

Creighton @BluejayMBB was the 1st team to average 17,000+ fans, despite a losing record, since Louisville in 2000-01. Unreal support/loyalty

Dayton's attendance this last year averaged 12,726, a fairly typical season for them. This is one major reason why they should be at the top of anyone's list of potential expansion candidates.

So our last place team finished 6th nationally in attendance?

Sweet!!

And this, my friends, is what separates the big east from other conferences. Top to bottom (with the exception of the Chicago problem), the institutional and community support for the teams is top notch. No other conference has such commitment. We need to improve on our top end teams and have more teams advance in the dance, but the foundation is there for this to be among the best conferences in the nation.

+1 There has also been discussion locally on some levels (NOT in athletics at UD that "I'm aware" to date) that a new arena might be built down the road that would help with NCAA 2-3rd round games etc. 16500-17500......"build it they will continue to come"! Some additional land in close proximity to UD has recently changed hands has been the focal point of this discussion but nothing beyond that as far as anyone knows! Most of us love the arena though and it's a great place to see a game at least according to us Flyer fans and the NCAA! :)

At XU we built Cintas a few years ago with the idea of it being an A10 arena. There was no thinking of BE membership at the time. Cintas holds only 10,250 and we average a full house every game however the arena is clearly undersized for the BE. Don't misunderstand it is one of those places where there is truly no bad seat in the house, a cozy place with good concessions and a great experience for all however it should have been in the 14K to 16K size range. Unfortunately I don't think there is any way of increasing the capacity.

DePaul will have a new 12K arena in a few years however until they learn to win I don't expect any miracles. Everyone else appears in good shape. I have attended games at UD over the last 25 years and always found it a good place to play and watch with a full or almost full crowd at all games. The arena is showing it's age and may need refurbishment but their fans are solid. The school is only 48 miles from X and I see them as a possible BE add. However I fear I am in a minority amongst XU fans in this regard.

10,000 is a good size arena. Same size as what UConn has on campus. Bigger than Cameron Indoor Stadium where Duke plays. Those are big time programs.
