Can not believe it's been 25 years since Hank Gathers passed away... ESPN has a great story about it today- http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketb ... sary-death

It's one of those things that you remember where you were when you heard the news. For sports- not too many of those- for me Gathers, Len Bias passing away have got to be the 2 biggest ones.

Yeah, that was terrible. It was in the middle of a game in the WCC tourney, so it was caught on film. I'm pretty sure Gathers had just dunked the ball, and heading back down the court he collapsed at midcourt.

He and fellow star teammate Bo Kimble were from Philadelphia and both went to Loyola Marymount. One of the most memorable, exciting teams and NCAA tournaments, for better or worse. Actually his nephew plays for Saint Bonaventure (I think).

Yeah I think it was a pretty powerful alley-oop dunk if memory serves me right.

Their game vs Michigan still to this day is one of the most amazing ones I've ever seen. That Michigan team was really good and they had nothing for LMU. Like I said on the other board, they were like VCU on hyperspeed.

Seeing the story about him going up against Shaq at LSU was amazing as well. 48 points against Shaq. Unreal.
