2015-16 Exempt Tourney thread

Postby stever20 » Fri Feb 27, 2015 1:59 am

Figured be smart to start this- a thread with all the news with the 2015 Exempt tournaments-
Marquette going to the Legends Classic. Other top teams are LSU, Arizona St, and NC State. Expect Arizona St or NC St in the semifinals, as they would want LSU/Marquette I think in the title game with 2 top frosh.

Maui, 2KSports, and Orlando appear to have the best lineups of teams at the present time.

1 Kansas
8 Chaminade

4 UCLA
5 UNLV

3 St. John's
6 Vandy

2 Indiana
7 Wake Forest

They don't really seed Chaminade normally 8th. This past year Arizona was in the tourney and they played what was a NCAA tourney team last year in Missouri. Chaminade played Pittsburgh. Other 1st rd games were Purdue/Kansas St and San Diego St/BYU. Arizona then played Kansas St while San Diego St played Pittsburgh.

So glad Xavier is in a real tournament this year. Although we have a horrible track record with tournaments int he Chris Mack era. I think we will be better off because all the underclassmen will have had a year together at that point.

My guessing on seeds.

1. Wichita St
8. Monmouth

4. Xavier
5. Dayton

3. Iowa
6. Alabama

2. Notre Dame
7. USC

I think they spread out the mid-major teams better and match them all up with power conference schools.

1 Notre Dame
8 Monmouth (GO HAWKS!)

4 Xavier
5 Bama

3 Iowa
6 Dayton

2 Wichita
7 USC

They don't havd seeds for these tournaments. These tourneys are huge for the Big East to set the tone in the leagues RPI for the rest of the season.

They don't seed by number per se, but they do de facto seeding. Don't put the number besides the team, but they are trying to set up specific SF and finals. In Maui for instance, the tougher teams are going to be playing your Wake Forest, Vandy, and even Chaminade 1st rd. Not going to see a Kansas/UCLA 1st rd game.

They don't # seed them but they do try and set it up so the two best teams meet in the final and get a lot of viewers. They aren't going to put the two best teams against each other in the first round. They usually spread them out so they meet in later rounds.

Granted, I know nothing about the mid major teams involved (Santa Clara, Irvine, Evansville & Boise), but only one of the is above 110 in RPI right now (and BC obviously). Hopefully those schools can keep it up next year.

Something like:

1- Arizona
8- Santa Clara

4- Boise State
5- Boston College

3- Providence
6- Evansville

2- Michigan State
7- UC Irvine
