Awful Announcing: Will Big East Low Ratings Scare B1G Away?

Fox needs to get the rights for the Big Ten. Don't care how much they have to over pay. It's a necessity at this point to ensure the future of not only FS1 but by extension the Big East.

The fox sports 1 update thread is like a hundred pages deep and has maybe 5 participants following at this point.

That said, the rating for big east games have vastly improved this yr, and the promotional efforts by fox have been outstanding. Long term I am very bullish on fox. Heck, they grabbed bill o'reilly off inside edition, and it was a hit off the start, but the guy out rates anything on CNN these days. Wasn't long ago when the Simpsons and married with children were upstart shows chasing in living color.

Patience. This is not a 5 year deal. It is a decade commitment. We have time to re-establish our brand and succeed.

B1G isn't going to make any of their decisions based on NBE. They know who they are and anyone who remotely compares the brands is off base. The brands are worlds apart. B1G fans would be hard pressed to name 5 of the teams currently in NBE correctly. There isn't anyone in USA that couldn't identify 5 B1G teams, the league will move viewers wherever they go but ESPN isn't likely to lose them.

If Fox Sports gets Big Ten games, you know where the Big East falls on the scheduling priority list. Do you really want that?

Thing is, we're kind of in a catch 22 type situation. They get the Big Ten, what you says applies. But if Fox doesn't get the Big 10, does FS1 just become a souped up version of NBC/CBS Sports Network? Which in turn hurts the Big East.

Big East will still get plenty of time slots. Many of the games currently on fS1 are probably better suited for fs2 anyway.

There aren't enough B1G games to push us off TV. It's a good thing that Fox expands it's viewership. It's also a good thing that we share the same geographic territory as the B1G. That way we can grab the local B1G fans when they see our games on. Joe 6 pack in Wisconsin sees that Marquette is playing Georgetown and he tunes in. It can only help us that we would share both geography and TV network with the largest and most powerful conference in college sports. It can also help us with getting kids in our region to look at our schools as a viable option when choosing a college. Kid in Ohio whose father is an OSU and has never heard of Creighton now sees the commercial/game and looks into that school. It can only help us if they come. Also think of the scheduling options. Outside of the Gavitt tip off there would be a greater chance of getting more B1G teams on our OOC.

I didn't say the Big 10 would push the Big East off TV. What will happen is the Big Ten will get their pick of the time slots and dates and then the Big East will chose next. Likely the UFC will get first pick over basketball. It's all economics, who pulls in the viewers. Yes we agree that it's a good thing for Fox to expand it's viewership. That will be their focus, on how to maximize their income, i.e., where and how they can pull in more viewers.

In some ways I see what you are saying, but I see this years schedule as having been perfect(except for NYE), and if Fox got the Big Ten, I don't see our schedule being anywhere near as good as this year.

Also and the bigger issue- I think if Big Ten came, they would pretty much dictate the terms(meaning none of their games would be on FS2). So we would find a lot more of our games on FS2 or on regional sports networks.
