Blind resume time... 5 bubble teams, 2 make it. Which of the following 2 do you think are most deserving:
Team A:
Best win: @ 23
Best non-home win: @23
Vs. RPI Top 50: 2-5
(5,6,7,17,23,23,35)
vs. Top 100: 6-5
Losses vs. RPI 150+: 0
Team B:
Best win: @46
Best non-home win: @46
Vs. RPI Top 50: 1-3
(14, 24, 41, 46)
vs. Top 100: 2-3
Losses vs. RPI 150+: 1 (180)
Team C:
Best win: 1 (H)
Best non-home win: vs. 84 (N)
Vs. RPI Top 50: 1-5
(1,5,6,21,35,43)
vs. Top 100: 3-5
Losses vs. RPI 150+: 1 (156)
Team D:
Best win: 22 (H)
Best non-home win: @ 49
Vs. RPI Top 50: 4-2
(9,22,26,46,48,49)
vs. Top 100: 4-3
Losses vs. RPI 150+: 1 (240)
Team E:
Best win: 14
Best non-home win: 14 (N)
Vs. RPI Top 50: 1-3
(3,9,14,35)
vs. Top 100: 3-6

VERY curious to see your responses Stever.

Why should that matter? Are you suggesting that the tourney committee should just let a computer decide? What if all their RPI's were within a 10-15 pts of each other? If you were a committee person, and this is the data you were given, who are you selecting and why?
But to appease you (so you can look up and figure out who's who, before giving your answer) here are the 5 RPI's (not in order):
37
42
43
45
52

D has the best resume by far. A looks like the pretty clear second to me.
but B...is this actually a team considered on the bubble NCAA's? Or did you throw in an NIT bubble team as a joke? That resume is horrible. Only 2 top 100 wins (losing record vs top 100), and a loss to RPI #180. C has a pretty ugly resume too, but that best win over RPI #1 gives it a major boost.

Each has flaws and each are clearly bubble teams IMO.
A). 2-5 vs Top 25 but clearly the most challenging schedule with 3 losses vs RPI Top 10. Most wins vs tip top 100; no bad losses.
B). Hasn't proven enough; losing record in RPI top 100; BAD loss vs 150+ team; if 46 drops out of top 50 they'll have 0 top 50 wins
C). 1-5 vs RPI top 50; Like team A, has had a tough schedule; BAD 150+ loss; losing record vs RPI 100
D). Good record vs RPI 50 unless the 3 teams in the high 40's fall out of RPI 50; so-so record vs top100; WORST loss (240) of any bubble team
E). Losing record vs RPI 100; no bad losses but enough quality wins?
A). SJU
B). Tulsa
C). Temple
D). Cincy
E). GW
Anyone that says that any of these teams are CLEARLY in better shape than the others just isn't looking at the data. And here's a bigger point... SJU has maybe 6-7 more games vs RPI top 50 teams. What if they go 4-3 in those? And those mother teams have several opportunities left on their schedules for bad losses and very few opportunities for good wins.

In this group St John's clearly has the best opportunity over the last few weeks but do have to play DePaul, Creighton and Marquette and rpiforecast predicts a 6-4 finish and a 62 rpi and that's the worst of the group and then there are about 30 other teams above and below St. John's vying for the same space. But this time of year you can find data to support just about any opinion you want to embrace. John's fans will like this 1
