It's a joke that Providence isn't ranked and Butler is only 25th in the AP and not even ranked in the coaches.

from Gary Parrish:
Associated Press poll: If you glanced at Sunday night's update of the Top 25 (and one) you know I believe there are about 15-to-20 schools that could reasonably be ranked anywhere in the 20s, point being that I'm mostly uninterested in debating the bottom of the rankings.

The last three teams in my rankings are Georgia, Butler and Miami.

But they could just as easily be Providence, SMU and Stanford.

Or Arkansas, George Washington and Ohio State.

Whatever.

Again, there are 15-to-20 teams that could be reasonably ranked in the 20s on anybody's ballot, which is among the reasons 43 schools received votes this week.

So it's not all that egregious to him that PC would be out. Hardly a joke.

So Parrish's response to someone who reminds him that Providence blew out Miami is ... "whatever"... i mean, jeesh, it's like the definition of "joke".

He seems to really take his job seriously. Nice to see him put so much thought into his rankings.

Gary Parrish the dentist:
"For your root canal today, i gave you novacaine and stuffed cotton balls in your mouth... once i did that, i decided to slice your gums open to access the root... but i just as easily could've pulled two of your canines... or removed your tonsils... oh yeah, and i didn't bother stitching up your gums... whatever..."

But i guess he's better than Vitale, who ranked 1 Big East team, putting Villanova at #12,

The AP and Coaches Polls are nice. Sure they are fun to talk about, but they don't mean as much as RPI. The RPI has Butler at 15. Providence is 20, Xavier 35 and Seton Hall 42. No worries. Let the Old Boy's Network do what it wants to do.

While true, having ranked teams helps with national perception. PC should definitely be ranked, especially since a team they beat, Miami is ranked and has a much worse resume than PC....

Not sure why you would put Seton Hall on this list. Right now- Seton Hall doesn't deserve to be rated at all.... And Xavier is pretty much mediocre right now. Butler/Providence- yes.

I think for one the voters that use the advanced metrics like Ken Pom see Providence right now- at #48. 10 spots worse than St John's right now. and 4 spots worse than Miami.

A lot of Miami of course is the fact they manhandled Duke by 16 at Duke.

Georgetown will be out of the top 25 after it's loss to Xavier last night. A good sweep for XU.

Xavier is now 19th in Pomeroy. Absent Villanova and Butler, no program in the league has an argument for being in the Top 25 grounded in data.
