Instead of replying to the several threads on the Demons, I'll just start an independent one to respond en masse. I recognize/know most of the other DePaul posters here (we are a small fandom) so I'm sure we would sing a similar same tune. That being:
A) We've been beat to crap the last decade and are fully aware of the programs short-comings.
B) Most of us realize that OP, and by extension JLP, aren't long-term answers for either position.
C) While we realize that short-term success does not portend anything long-term, we still are fans and want to watch entertaining Basketball. God knows the hell we've lived through the last ten years.
D) I personally find the current bitching by other fan bases quite humorous. Here's an old piece of advice a coach once gave a team I played on. Don't get pissed at the other team who you lost too and felt was inferrior (in your eyes). You lost because you did not play better than your opponent, and its on YOU.
E) And come to the realization that while in the end DePaul might not be a good team, there is enough talent and discipline on this team for them not to suck as bad as they had in the past. Thus, if you leave a couple of our reasonably good 3 point shooters wide the hell open, don't bitch about it if the kid drains 4 or 5 in your face and you end up losing by double digit points.
F) The six game losing streak, and by extension the 3 game wining streak, probably tells you what this team is. A team that can get extremely hot or extremely cold based on their shooting and defensive effort. If Big East opponents continue to look past DePaul and not give a crap about defending (ala Creighton last night), expect more WTF losses on your end the rest of the conference slate.
That is all. Hopefully DePaul can continue to win and roll on through the season. Perhaps OP channelled his inner Lou Brown, and in the immortal words of the 1989 cinematic classic Major League, "Let's see if we can give 'em a nice big big sh#tburger to eat"!
Personally, I see this team obviously coming back down to Earth. But as a fan, I'm now intrigued enough by the effort to make DePaul basketball appointment viewing again
