Why We're Never Going Back (To CSNBBS)

This is a MOD who is a Cincy fan posting on the pretty much defunked Big East board over there.

As a follow up, I talked to my source at Dayton again last week and he said that Dayton was advised (by their media consultants) that Fox is unhappy with the ratings they have gotten from the Big East, and they are not willing to pony up more cash for the Big East to expand (hence the reason they weren't willing to add Dayton until they renegotiate in the future). The Big East is very concerned about their tournament success due to the poor showing last season and would like to expand but is not willing to expand and lose money for each school.

The media consultant also said that there are other long term coaches in the league who have agents shopping them around to other schools due to the perceived lack of coverage they are getting by ESPN. They believe Buzz Williams was right and that it is hindering recruiting (although Marquette's recruiting this season seems to be opposite of that viewpoint). Supposedly there is some acrimony as well that Villanova and St. John's are getting favorable TV treatment compared to the rest of the league.

Not trying to troll here... just saying what I've been told.

This is on a thread on the CR board about how UConn should rejoin the Big East.

Another Cincy fan.

Anyone really believe UConn basketball would be better off in a diluted Big East? Relegate them to Fox Sports One and you'll need a microscope to find TV rating points. The Huskies will draw solid viewership as always this season on the ESPN networks.

An LSU fan who doesn't realize that we make more money with just BBall than the AAC makes for FB & BBall.

Why is so difficult for historic Big East fans to comprehend the fact that football $$ > basketball $$? UCONN is trying to move on to greener pastures, not go backwards. Good grief...

An Illinois fan getting in on the action.

Except the Big East isn't the Big East anymore. UConn fans miss Creighton, Butler, Xavier, DePaul and Seton Hall?

Just so you all know, Big East bashing isn't only not punished it is encouraged. Stever, thats why we left and thats why we're not going back. The one Big East MOD left, JohnBragg doesn't say squat when a Cincy MOD trolls the board. Good god that place is a cesspool! I don't know why I check that place out every few weeks.

Dude, don't even bother with them. That place is crazy.

Exactly why I left 2 years ago.

I had considered posting with some rumors of my own... we could really mess with their heads...

Also, among the funniest threads are the college hockey ones. There's one guy, "No Dak", who knows his stuff. Everyone else is clueless, including hatching ideas for an ACC ice hockey conference... apparently BC and Notre Dame will join frat-houses, pick-up teams, assorted club teams, and other non-existent programs from Syracuse, Pitt, Georgia Tech and Clemson in this make-believe ACC design. The North Dakota guy is too polite to ask them what type of mushroom they've eaten.

Actually, if you dig deep into the mire over there, they sometimes slip and give us props... the gatechswagger guy on the ACC board, and Marge Schott are often brutally honest about bad ACC performances... and someone there forgot to include "Notre Dame lost to Providence" when listing bad ACC losses... a compliment by omission.

Haha I know! Every few weeks I get bored, like today (already done for the year and off for the holidays) and I go check it out.

BTW did you know you guys are on the verge of financial collapse even though you guys are now getting over 4 million dollars more a year for your sports? hahaha

The thing I don't understand is why everyone seems to believe that football success will equal basketball success. The only team I can think of that has equal success would be Florida and Michigan St., the rest almost seem to have an inverse relationship.

I'd add in Ohio St as well. They're really good in both. Want to say Wisconsin- but with all the coaching un-stability there, it's tough to say that.

I would add Wisconsin, OSU, UofL, and K-State to that list but it is a very short list. Duke, WVU and Utah to a lesser extent.

When the Big East board split, I thought things would be better. The CR board will always be an unwelcome place for basketball discussion. I will read it but won't generally reply or let things bother me. With how things went with you, NJ, you shouldn't even bother yourself. I wouldn't get on johnbragg too much since the board has been basically abandoned. I would hope that any general BE board would be inclusive of all fellow fans (including Stever) no matter what; there are enough people looking to tear down the conference and the fans.
