Like him, I hate the polls. In the modern electronic world of computers & cable networks they have long outlived their usefulness. In college basketball, they were a creation of the 1940's when getting the opinions of a variety of people around the country, who had actually seen teams play, was the best there was. I have no idea why they get the attention they do other than tradition.

However, his article is a gross overreaction to teams being "in" or "out". Of the top 25. The fact is that Providence actually got more votes after losing to Kentucky than they had the week before. So, the coaches really didn't drop them down. They only fell 2 spots from #25 to 27 and that was because big wins during the week by some other schools - Butler among them - allowed those other schools to gain votes and jump over PC. But it wasn't because the Friars were losing votes from the coaches. They were actually gaining a few votes.
