COST OF FULL ATTENDANCE FOR NON P-5 FOOTBALL SCHOOLS

Postby robinreed » Wed Nov 26, 2014 7:10 am

School sports deficit in football schools outside the power-5 in 2012-2013.

I do not know what the deficit is with our 10 schools. As they are private institutions I believe they are not required to report these things. However I must assume they are much lower that the schools listed.

Obviously the major reason is the cost of football.

What will they do when the full cost of attendance is included. I saw a report on a sports website in September which stated that one of the power 5 schools had calculated the FCOA will be $10,250 per scholarship or for that school about $3 million per year (over 300 scholarships and 85 of them for football.)

Great find - thanks for sharing.

I am convinced that some of these schools will be dumping football soon. Frankly, schools like UMass and San Diego St should have done it yesterday and dedicated some of the saved funds to hoops. Others like Cincinnatti, Memphis and UConn would be wise to follow suit.

I can't speak for the others, but Cincinnati will never drop football. They might not have the best fanbase, but they were inches away from competing with tier 1 football teams that they could never accept dropping it now.

There are only 7 SCHOOLS that don't take state tax subsidies already because of athletic department deficits so with the full cost of tuition, which will add a few more million to each annual deficit, there's going to be a big outcry and a reversal of sentiment from "poor athlete is being exploited" to "asshole spoiled jarhead stealing my money," just watch. No BE team will have to deal with that.
