If Providence can beat Nova, I think they have a great shot at a protected (top-4) seed. Low probability, but definitely an opportunity. I think they could also get a top-4 if they lost @ Nova but won out the regular season and then made the BET Finals. Best hope is for one of them, Butler or GTown to get on a roll from here out and win every game til the BET final.

Just based off of his latest Bracketology, Lunardi has Xavier at 29 (the top 8 seed), Georgetown at 25 (the top 7 seed), Butler and Providence both ranked anywhere from 21-24 (6 seeds), St. John's probably in the 39 or 40 spot (10 seed), and Nova probably still sitting at 6 (2 seed).

Two top ten teams competing for the conference title with incredible depth behind them.

For this year at least, I have no idea what to make of these teams. Gonzaga passes the eye test; they would be top 3 in the league no doubt. They've beaten 4 tournament-quality teams at least. But it is worth noting that 19 of their 27 wins came vs. RPI 100+. For some perspective Nova has 27 wins and only 12 of those vs. teams with an RPI of 100+.

Wich St and VCU would be in that SJU/X mix for 5/6th place at best IMO. Take the RPI # itself off the table and look at Wich St. and No. Iowa. They are examples of teams who have huge records heading into the tourney, but their resume's are paper thin. Wich St has 25 wins. 21 of them vs. RPI 90 or higher. Best win? Tulsa. Are you kidding me? No. Iowa has 27 wins, 22 of which came vs. teams 90+. Best/only good win: Wich St., who we have established as truly untested at this point.

VCU has at least played a decent schedule but again, best win? No. Iowa. So besides beating themselves, there is not much more to hang your hat on.

VCU beat Oregon, Northern Iowa, and Davidson- all 3 will likely be in the NCAA tourney on merit. Dayton and Davidson next 2 games- so potentially 2 more wins there. 11 top 100 wins. That's nothing to sneeze at. They are no paper thin resume team at all.

The thing about All 3 of those teams is look what they did OOC.
Gonzaga 11-1 with #16 SOS 5 RPI
VCU 10-3 with #1 SOS 4 RPI
Wichita St 9-2 with #37 SOS 15 RPI

Even if they were .500 in conference play, they would be likely in the tourney easily.

compare to the Big East teams OOC
Nova 13-0 with #60 SOS 7 RPI
PC 10-3 with #22 SOS 20 RPI
Georgetown 8-3 with #8 SOS 40 RPI
Butler 10-3 with #84 SOS 49 RPI
Xavier 10-3 with #49 SOS 26 RPI
St John's 10-2 with #69 SOS 36 RPI
Seton Hall 10-2 with #196 SOS 35 RPI
Creighton 9-4 with #165 SOS 107 RPI
Marquette 8-4 with #156 SOS 134 RPI
DePaul 6-7 with #316 SOS 283 RPI

So we would have had 3 top 10 OOC RPI teams, along with #15, 20, 26, 35, 36, and 40. That's 9 OOC top 40 teams! Butler at #49 would have been 10th!!! Even if Wichita was only 8-10 in the conference, they would still be helping out.

I just wanted to vent my frustration about Villanova and ESPN. I'll clearly be rooting against them tomorrow, but still. They are 26-2 in the #2 RPI conference in the country and they're not considered a 1 seed right now. Gonzaga passes the eye test, but Nova has a better resume top to bottom. Honestly, all Zaga has over Nova is 1 loss vs. 2 losses and a "better loss."

I've heard ESPN personalities say Villanova is underrated, because "they don't have the exposure anymore." Clearly, that is a dig at Fox Sports. Do you think the Committee cares about ratings? 5 more top 50 wins than Zaga and honestly, that number will most likely grow. I hope Nova gets a 1 seed (hopefully with 3 losses), so I can hear ESPN complain about a team from the WCC getting shafted in the seedings because of a team from the Big East. The irony will be absolutely the best.

I have a feeling that the Big East will get a lot more respect in the seedings than ESPN will care for. I just hope that our teams will back it up and make ESPN eat their words. Maybe they'll turn into the old BESPN if 2-3 BE teams can find a way to the E8.

I don't think it's been that bad actually. Haven't heard any ESPN personality say about the exposure. Heard them say they are underrated because of no 1 dominant player, everyone contributing etc. That's fair...

saw this column from ESPN that I don't see anything wrong with at all:
http://espn.go.com/blog/collegebasketba ... -no-1-seed

The thing that is holding our teams back in seeding is the OOC play. Butler to Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Indiana. Georgetown to Wisconsin, Butler, and Kansas. Especially Providence to Kentucky, BC, and Brown. Providence would be a lot higher than 26 without the BC and Brown losses. Even Xavier to UTEP, Long Beach St, and Auburn. I think that really hurts the seedings of PC and Xavier in particular. I think PC would be up to around a 5 without those 2 dreadful losses(plus one to Marquette) right now- with a chance if they beat Butler to maybe get onto the 4 line. Also some of the wins we got OOC don't look so special now. Georgetown over Florida and Indiana. Providence over Florida St and Miami. St John's over Minnesota and Syracuse. Even Nova over VCU and Syracuse.
