This slate of games is... uninspiring.
The Gavitt Games next year, on the other hand, is going to be an incredible opening statement.

Most games Friday in every conference is ho-hum.

Oh, I know. That doesn't mean I like it, though.

The Gavitt games won't be the first day. It's the first Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday of the season. So this year it would be next Tuesday-Friday.

Most coaches don't want a brutal game 1st game of the year. Yeah you have your exceptions- but they are just that exceptions to the rule.

At least UIC at DePaul (at McGrath-Phillips Arena at the Sullivan Athletic Center on the Lincoln Park Campus) is a Chicago inter-city rivalry game, despite both schools coming in last place in their respective conferences last season. DePaul beat UIC, 71 to 72.

Jays fans are excited about Central Arkansas (and the rest of the schedule):

Adrian Rider, Creighton’s assistant athletic director in charge of ticketing, said season ticket sales have exceeded the record 15,100 sold last season.

“We’re right above that at this point,” Rider said. “A month ago, I didn’t think we’d finish above last year’s total, but there’s been a late push that was great.”

Rider also said single-game sales, which began about two weeks ago, have been brisk. Rider said there are 300 tickets remaining for the opener, and no more than 900 tickets remain for any other game this season.

“I think we’ll put ourselves in a position where we’ll sell out most of our games,” he said. “Any time we have 1,000 tickets or less, we feel we have a great chance for a sellout.”

What's also interesting about that game is the late tipoff. 9PM local time. If either of these programs were any good, that would have been a very bad and alcohol-drenched idea, but I like the creativity of having the game at McGrath. Hopefully a packed house with fans of both teams. If not, it's going to be kind of an embarassment for both DePaul AND UIC.
Al McGuire: "What is this?"
Waiter: "Mr. McGuire, that is a cull lobster. Sometimes when the lobsters are in the tank, they fight. This one lost a claw."
Al McGuire: "Well then take this one away and bring me the winner."
