Villanova is #12.

2 teams getting votes- Providence with 5 and Georgetown with 4.

Clearly the Big Ten, ACC and Big 12 are the class with 15 teams in the poll. We are amongst the also rans with 6 conferences (including the BE) having only 1 team in the top 25. This is yet another reason why I wish we could convince Uconn to join the BE. Then we would have at least 2 teams in the poll. I would like to think that XU has a chance to get into the top 25 by the end of the year but the coaches generally have a reasonably good grasp on the situation.

If we want to be considered more than a mid major we need 3 teams in the top 25 by the end of the season and at least 4 schools in the dance.
I see nova in the top 10, Georgetown having a chance of being in the top 25 and XU with a very outside chance of making the top 25 but that is a long shot. The Muskies have done more with less in past years however. Some have suggested PC also has an outside chance but that is about it.

Getting 4 into the dance on the other hand seems very doable.

And if we added Wichita State and VCU like some have advocated we would have 3 teams in the rankings and some additional rivalry games for our TV partners. I had no interest in the MVC but I watched Creighton and Wichita State games because the rivalry was good. Georgetown versus VCU would also be interesting to watch.

Leagues that have tried to maximize profit for the short term have never prospered. Both the MWC and the Big East come to mind. The PAC was last to a Championship game and can't get their network on the major providers. The Big 10 and SEC have no such problem. The ACC acted proactively and thought long term and they have thrived.

Sadly the Big East Presidents have other priorities than making sure this league is a top basketball league. We aren't even the top mid-major. The AAC is and if/when they offer VCU or Wichita State it won't be close.

you could almost put it 3 tiers. Big 12 if you just look at the numbers is better than the ACC or Big Ten even(9/15 or 9/14 compared to 8/10).

If we want to be a top league in this new world we have to be ruthless. Take 12 teams. 6 in the east and 6 in the Midwest. You have to stay above 175 in RPI. If you fall below you go on a 4 year probation period. If you don't break the 100's in that time your out of the league.
