Will B12 additions free UCONN to join Big East?

The twitterverse has apparently gone all agog with rumors that the B12 will soon add 4 teams. The rumors have the schools coming from the AAC. Supposedly UCF, USF, Cincinnati and ECU will be added to the B12. I say supposedly because similar rumors occur every 3 or 4 months.

IF this is true it will almost certainly destroy the AAC and perhaps free up UConn and Temple to join the Big East. Although I suspect Villanova will do everything possible to veto Temple the addition of UConn to the BE would be a major achievement. Internet rumors concerning Louisville, Pitt and Syracuse have proven accurate however for every accurate rumor there are 66999 which are false. None the less I like this rumor as UConn would be a significant addition to our conference.

In other threads I have pleaded to hold our membership to 10. However if UConn and Temple are available the situation changes dramatically.

The one downside is that the B12 is televised by ESPN and Fox. Putting and increased number of B12 basketball games on Fox and FS1 might reduce the amount of BE games on the network. However this is speculation not unlike the expansion rumors themselves.

The rumors seem to have been initiated by a Tuxedo Yoda on his twitter account and several others have followed suit.

I suspect we will find out within a few months if this is accurate or the rumors may just continue for another 10 years.

Man, do I ever have a hard time seeing Texas and Oklahoma voting for that.

I don't know much about college athletics outside of basketball. But I would've figured that the Big 12 (or any conference) would want: UConn, Cincinnati, Memphis then Temple in that order. How can USF, ECU and UCF possibly be ahead of those schools?

The problem for UConn/Big 12 is that UConn is in a terrible location in relation to the Big 12. UCF/USF may be almost as bad, but fertile recruiting ground.

Also these would be showing just how big football is.

Hahahaaaa this is funny. Adding Yukon is a big negative to our league, let them have their Football and rot in the AAC.

In more breaking news @Prof_Bulldog is reporting that he has been contacted about replacing Brandon Miller at Butler. No word yet on if he will be able to break his contract with Starbucks. Stay tuned.

Okay just for the record UCF is way more appealing to the Big XII than Memphis or Temple. They are the biggest school in FBS, they are in a recruiting hot bed of Florida, they have an on campus stadium that can easily be expanded and they have actually accomplished things at the FBS level, unlike it's directional counterpart in Tampa. UCF is definitely one of the more likely call ups to the P5 if and when that ever happens.

My order for call ups to the P5 is as follows:

1. BYU
2. Cincy
3. UCF
4. Nevada
5. UConn
6. Memphis
7. CSU
8. Navy
9. Houston
10. USF

On top of all of that, no way in hell UConn drops football. Schools don't move down. Even those weak ass Sun Belt schools don't move down. All of those FCS schools are trying to MOVE UP! No way no how UConn ends up in the Big East. I wish they would but it's never gonna happen. They've made their decision and now they are stuck with it for better or worse.

If UConn is willing (and able) to find another home for their football team, I would have no problem with adding them- provided they agree to an absurdly large buyout clause so we can be confident they won't bolt if the B1G or ACC comes calling. I'm happy staying with 10 programs, but if expansion is going to come- UConn adds a whole lot more to the conference than someone lake Dayton or St. Louis.

As far as Temple goes, if the Big East was going to consider adding another Philly school, Saint Joseph's would be the choice- not Temple. Especially if UConn joins, 1 team that's a risk to bolt for a football offer is bad enough, we don't need 2. That's moot though, Villanova will block any possible addition of another Philly school. That's arguably why Saint Joseph's isn't already in the Big East. From what I understand, they were strongly considered by the C-7 (well, 6 of them).

Yeah adding arguably the best team in college basketball the past 15 years is a negative says the SJU fan? Tell me what has sju done this century to help our league? UConn has more NCAA championships in 15 years than our entire league has ever. I'm sorry but Uconn would be huge and of the schools who are in a position to remotely insult UConn as if they are nothing SJU ain't one of them.
