The Siena men’s basketball team will open the 2015-16 season in the 2K Classic benefiting Wounded Warrior Project, Saints coach Jimmy Patsos said today.
Patsos said Siena will get four games out of the event, spread over two weekends in November.
The Saints will play at Georgetown in Washington D.C. on the first weekend. They’ll also face either Duke in Durham, N.C. or Virginia Commonwealth in Richmond that same weekend.
The following week, Siena will travel to Smithfield, R.I. to meet a field that includes host Bryant, Radford and another school.
Siena will receive a guarantee of around $100,000 for its participation.
“You get the extra games, you get the TV exposure,” Patsos said.
It’s not a true tournament in that Siena can not advance to the championship rounds at Madison Square Garden, which are reserved for the high-major schools that are playing in the event.
