Butler head coach Brandon Miller Taking Leave of Absence

Postby HoosierPal » Thu Oct 02, 2014 12:04 pm

Hot off the press. This is all that is public at this time.

Butler athletic director Barry Collier announced Thursday that basketball coach Brandon Miller will be taking a break from his duties with the Bulldogs.

"Brandon Miller has requested a leave of absence for medical reasons, which the University has granted," Collier said in a press release. "We are not in a position to further elaborate and we ask that everyone respect Brandon's privacy."

Chris Holtmann has been named interim coach. Holtmann joined Miller's staff as an assistant coach last year after serving as the head coach at Gardner-Webb for three seasons. He guided the team to a Division I school-record 21 victories and a berth in the CollegeInsider.com postseason tournament. He was named Big South Conference Coach of the Year and NABC District 3 Coach Of the Year.

Butler begins practice Saturday.

Word on the street is that he canceled a couple events the past few weeks due to an illness. Hopefully sooner time away helps him recuperate and its not a chronic issue for him

A second "leave of absence" in the last few years is definitely a red flag, obviously no idea if the two are related, but still.

Hopefully it's nothing too serious.

Chris Holtmann is taking over for the time being. First official practice I believe is on Saturday.

I was kind of curious- Holtmann wasn't the coach the year that Gardner-Webb beat Kentucky in that early-season tourney in 2007-08 season(can't believe it's only been 7 years- feels a lot longer than that).

Did he have to take one before? When?

When he was an assistant at Ohio State a few years back I believe

Like I said, absolutely no idea if they are even related at all but impossible not to wonder
