The Best college basketball coach hires in 2014 per Athlon Sports.

I must agree with at least 3 of these hires. Buzz Williams is one of the great coaches in college ball today. He can do more with less than almost any other coach.

I also like Tyndall and Tinkle on the other hand Pearl and Sampson have landed their former universities in hot water.

Read the article at: http://athlonsports.com/college-basketb ... es-2014-15

1. Buzz Williams, Virginia Tech
Williams was so desperate to get away from Marquette, a school without a president and an athletic director, that he grabbed the first halfway decent major conference job. That job turned out to be Virginia Tech. Positions at Tennessee and Missouri would open after Williams landed in Blacksburg, so the hire has to be seen as a coup for the Hokies. What Virginia Tech gets is a coach who reached the NCAA Tournament in five of six seasons at Marquette and reached the Sweet 16 or better three times. He will be unconventional, something Virginia Tech will need to be competitive in the ACC. At Marquette, Williams built a program that could go toe-to-toe with Syracuse, Louisville and Pittsburgh — all teams he’ll face in the ACC.

2. Bruce Pearl, Auburn

3. Donnie Tyndall, Tennessee

4. Kelvin Sampson, Houston

5. Danny Manning, Wake Forest

6. Cuonzo Martin, Cal

7. Saul Phillips, Ohio

8. Wayne Tinkle, Oregon State

Two of these coaches are going to the SEC, two to the ACC, two to the PAC, one to the AAC and one to the MAC.

Yet he was picked to win the Big East last year and then blew town after a subpar season.

Still in 6 years at Marquette, 5 NCAA tourney bids with all but 1 of them a top 6 seed. Compared to the others, i wouldn't say it's even close(maybe Pearl at Auburn)....

One that I was kind of surprised wasn't on the list was Frank Haith from Tulsa. I know they had him on the boomerang list- but I think that he could make a big impact pretty quickly at Tulsa.

Wojo as one of the 5 notable 1st time coaches.

No doubt Buzz did well at Marquette when he was able to get his kind of players playing his kind of ball. We'll see what he is able to attract at VT.
