Top 5 Big East Rivalries

Because half the recent posts on here have been nothing but name calling and panty bunching, here's this:

Per the gents at Big East Coast Bias

http://www.bigeastcoastbias.com/2014/9/4/6102177/what-are-the-top-5-rivalries-in-the-current-big-east-conference

5.Prov vs. Nova

4. SJU vs. SHU

3. BU vs XU

2. SJU vs. GU

1. GU vs. Nova

As a Butler fan, I kinda get the feeling that we care more about X than they do about us considering they have Cincy as well as an irrational hatred of Dayton. Nonetheless I think it has grown in the last few years to a respectable rivalry.

I think all of the rivalries make sense with the exception of Prov and Nova, maybe as a newbie I don't get it but I haven't seen much of a rivalry lately.

Thoughts?

I believe X and Butler will have a good rivalry from here, but I had to laugh at this glaring lack of research and accuracy:

They then followed each other into the Atlantic-10 and now find themselves in the same conference again in the Big East. It is safe to say that playing each other constantly has provided some tension between the two programs.

I didn't realize Butler went into the A10 along with Xavier in the mid-90's.

top 4 are probably correct. Yeah not sure about Providence v. Nova, but I mean there's a healthy amount of rivalry between all the older BE teams: Gtown, Providence, Nova, Seton Hall, St. John's, so you could probably toss any 2 together.

God dammit DePaul, get it together!

I'd put the SJU/SH rivalry in the 3rd spot. There is serious bad blood between the two schools and fan bases. Between the recent recruiting battles and the fact that my johnnies will schedule SH at Carnesecca instead of MSG just so they won't have a large fan presence at the games shows the level of animosity the two sides have towards each other. Not to mention the countless times I was told to go F myself as I walked through the lobby of the Rock with my Eugene Lawrence jersey on. hahaha

I think the difference for Xavier fans is that we do actually dislike UC and Dayton fans because of their tendency to use ancient history of superiority over the pathetic Xavier program through much of the 60's, 70's and first half of the 80's while we pretty much respect Butler because they don't ordinarily flaunt any superiority complex in X's face despite their wonderful success in recent NCAA Tourneys.

I love Butler vs XU games because:

1. We are both historical underdogs
2. We both play hard-nosed basketball
3. It has favored X recently.

No offense to either school, but no real big east fan would consider Xavier versus Butler a rivalry of any kind. A list like this that does not contain at least one rivalry game for Marquette is plain silly.

The problem is for Marquette- no games for them really do it. DePaul just sucks so bad that they don't fill it. None of the other older schools really do it either- for Georgetown you have Nova and SJ. For Nova you have Georgetown and SJ. For St John's- you have 3. For Seton Hall you have St John's at least. For PC you have St John's at least.

It's mainly because we lost our 2 biggest. Notre Dame and Louisville.
