Wooden Legacy, wtf?

Just released the Wooden Legacy. This cements X's weakest OOC schedule in probably 10+ years. Here is to hoping the silver lining is it gives the young team time to gel.

Pretty sure John Wooden would skip this tourney.

I'd be upset about the field but we play like absolute crap in these tournaments anyway.

It's funny looking at this bracket then immediately looking at Battle 4 Atlantis. UAB/Butler would be seeded somewhere 3/4/5 in this and they are BY FAR the worst two teams in that bracket.

The field in this tourney is severely deficient. The San Diego they list is not San Diego State but the University of San Diego. However we must realize the BE schedule is much stronger than the old A-10 schedule we played in former years. X was required to play a very strong OOC schedule to make up for the A-10's weak teams. Also there are going to be several freshmen and sophomores playing this year and hopefully this can be used to bring the team together.

Actually Orange County is not a bad area to take a vacation. I lived there for two years and found Costa Mesa, Huntington Beach, Newport Beach to be great vacation towns. They all are less than 30 miles from Fullerton. Also Santa Ana has the Lyon Air Museum, Anaheim has Disney Land and Buena Park has Knott's Berry Farm. All are must see sites for those who have not been to Southern California.

A few years ago I took a trip to SoCal on the Amtrack. Except for a 15 hour layover in Chicago I found it one of the most relaxing vacations I have experienced. Of course it is almost 3 DAYS from Cincinnati to LA on the train.

This may give X a chance to do some recruiting in SoCal. Something we have done very little of in the past.

Xavier was booked into the Old Spice Classic in Orlando (originally as an A-10 team) up until March of this year. That tournament is full of heavy hitters this year, but we had to go elsewhere after the BE deal, because Marquette was also already signed, and there can't be two teams from one conference. Thus, the last minute switch. I was looking forward to the Orlando trip. Great, up close venue and some great teams this year. These things are planned out for years. X was probably lucky to get a spot in the Wooden.

Allegedly that was the case, Butler and Georgetown had no issue though.

As someone who lives in SoCal, I of course love that X is coming out here for the second time in 3 years. If you live anywhere that gets remotely cold during the fall/winter, there are lots of worse places to visit than the OC.

UTEP and Washington should both be decent, but yes, that field is certainly not a tier one tournament.

Wih realignment i dont think that is the case as a few of the tourneys have teams from same conference. But X should have a few easy w's here

I don't see why this tourney is a problem for Xavier, a team that many expect to be in a rebuilding year. In rebuilding years, you try to get as many winnable games as possible in the non-conference schedule to give a young team time to gel before conference play.

Hopefully the Musketeers go 3-0 compared to last year's 0-3 effort at the Bahamas.
