St. John's Names New President

Postby NJRedman » Thu Apr 10, 2014 4:29 pm

St. John's has a new President and he is not a priest! Conrado Gempesaw will be the 17th President of St. John's University and will start after this school year ends.

http://www.stjohns.edu/about/office-pre ... -president

So now 4 out of the 9 known full time Presidents will not be clergy. The Marquette hire might make it an even split. Don't know what that would mean exactly but it is what it is.

??? We hired a lay person as our President as well a few weeks ago.

Ah, didn't realize you guys hired someone yet. I thought I heard when Buzz left that there wasn't a President in place yet.

At the time yes, we sped up the announcement a month because we had to look for a new coach and having both an interim Prez and AD didn't look too good (though those two interim guys were long-standing MU people from the 90s through to the Big East years).

I have no idea who the guy is, doesn't seem to have done anything that crazy. I hope I'm wrong. It's sad when my undergrad alma mater can get a better President as a small private college of 5,000 students than my graduate alma mater of SJ being a major university in the biggest city in America.
