Per @GaryParrishCBS, "There's at least one report suggesting Mack has been offered the job. That's untrue, a source told CBSSports..."

I have no inside knowledge, but he's not going to Cal.

Would Mack leave for California?

No.

the concern here is that it's so out of the blue almost that it feels like there could be something there as a result.

This would make less sense than going to Wake Forest.

I'd be surprised if he left for Cal but X really needs to open the wallet and pay Mack. He's only making like 500K? If that's correct, it's time for X to pay their coach a high major salary.

Mack is a good recruiter and decent bench coach who loves working at X. However that was true of the previous 4 XU head coaches as well. Yet the previous coaches all left when the big bucks were offered. How could they not? If Mack is offered 1.25 mm he is gone. If he is offered 1 mm he may well be gone. XU is a nice school with a small town type campus in the middle of a relatively large city. They have a nice arena and I was married in Bellarmine chapel on the XU campus (The marriage did not last long but that is another matter and I do not hold the Muskies responsible.) However money talks in coaching and nothing else talks louder or more convincingly.

I will say that U. Cal is one of the great academic centers in America and is always ranked in the top 20 public universities. The campus is beautiful and it is only a few miles from San Francisco and the wine country and about 80 miles from the mountains. And yes they have NO winter.

Every school in the Big East except maybe Butler probably pays their coaches 1 million or more a year (correct me if I'm wrong). Time for Xavier to act like a major basketball school and pay their coach appropriately. What are they doing with the extra 4 million they get from Fox? They can surely use some of it to give Mack a raise.
