Really a tremendous honor worth it's own thread. McDermott was the face of the league this season and helped the Big East immeasurably in a transition year.

The last Big East player to win the Wooden Award was Walter Berry of St. John's in 1986.

So, the AP and Wooden POY awards. Is that a first for the Big East? Congrats to Doug and CU!

Great accomplishment and really no surprise. There was no player even close to him this season. Just three Wooden winners in the Big East - Mullen, Berry and now McBuckets. Congrats to the Jays and to all of us in the Big East.

CollegeInsider.com (Lute Olson Award) is the 12th different organization to honor McDermott as its National Player of the Year this season, joining the USBWA Oscar Robertson Trophy, the John R. Wooden Award, CBSSports.com, Sporting News, USA Today, NBCSports.com, BleacherReport.com, Basketball Times and Dick Vitale. McDermott also won the Senior CLASS Award on Thursday, which takes into account his work on the court and in the classroom and community.

Definitely the most prestigious of all. Surprised I haven't seen mention of it on ESPN's bottom line.

There was an 18 page special section devoted entirely to Doug in today's Omaha newspaper. Pretty awesome.
