Holy Land of Hoops Power Rankings - February 1

Postby admin » Fri Jan 31, 2014 12:05 pm

There are no Big East games today, so I've gone ahead and flipped the calendar and posted our updated Power Rankings. I don't think there's much argument about numbers 1-5, but 6-10 could have gone a lot of different ways.

The Current Holy Land ranking shows:

1.Creighton
2. Nova
3. X
4. Prov
5. Marquette
6. St John's
7. Butler
8. Seton Hall
9. Depaul
10. Gtown

The bottom half can be jumbled around and is up for debate, but last night was humbling wake up call for Providence, imo...Unfortunately there are some significant questions for me as a Friar fan about how they can finish out strong due to depth issues and ability/inability to win on the road. A home heavy first half has helped them jump out fast, but most of their games are on the road now. I'll agree they're tentatively sitting in 4th but the jury is out if they belong there and or in the NCAAs.....They must prove then can win at least 2 or 3 on the road and hold court at home, a tall order, imo. Marquette has a chance in these next 3 to catch fire and get back in the bubble. The only hope for the rest is to win the BET.
Let's Go FRIARS!

i have no clue why providence struggles so with marquette. They dominate PC everytime. I was pleased that PC made a comeback. If they had a slightly better first half instead of that horrifying display i think they would have won. I hope whatever the "glitch" was, it has been corrected

Georgetown is on a slide, but I think they're remarkably close to being near the top. Close losses to Villanova, Marquette, and Seton Hall have pushed them down the standings, but I think they're a much better team than your power rankings suggest.

The Hoyas have talent, always recruiting well, and I think they've got a shot at home vs Michigan St.
