A side note to tomorrow's Friars-Musketeers game at noon...
PC is raising the jerseys of 3 Friar legends to the rafters at halftime... Tracy Lis, Kevin Stacom and Joe Hassett... anything I write about them won't due them justice, so instead I've included links to nice articles are below, by the people at friarbasketball... I will say that as a kid in the 70's, Stacom and Hassett were legends to all of us Rhode Islanders.

- Tracy Lis ('92) was a womens' star 20+ years ago. She held the Big East scoring record (over 2500 pts) til 2009 or so.

- Kevin Stacom ('74) was in the Friar backcourt with Ernie D., and later won a ring with the Celtics in '76 (he played in the 3-OT game vs Phoenix). A great guy, personable and approachable, we'd see him at his restaurant in Newport over the years. Stacom was from NYC, originally went to Holy Cross, but transfered to Providence after a year.

- Joe Hassett ('77) was a fantastic outside shooter, nicknamed "Sonar", who later won a ring with Lenny Wilkens's Supersonics in '79 (he was one the NBA's first 3-point specialists). He's been the radio announcer for PC with John Rooke for almost 30 years. Joe was from Providence, went to LaSalle Academy (which is around 2 blocks from PC) for high school, before joining the Friars. Like Stacom, Joe is also a great guy and very approachable and personable... you can see him during games a couple of seats away from the PC bench, sometimes Ed Cooley makes comments to Joe during the game. We'd see him a lot at the beach with his family over the years.

Has PC already retired the jerseys of Stacom team mates Ernie (no) D and Marvin (tire-iron) Barnes? I mean no disrespect with those nicknames. That's what they were called back in the day when I was in grad school at Brown and all those guys were playing for Dave Gavitt (I think) on what was an immensely entertaining basketball team to watch.
