The tournament teams:
1. Nova
2. Creighton
3. Georgetown
4. Xavier

The bubble team:
5. Butler

The "still have a pulse" teams:
6. St john's
7. Marquette

The downtrodden:
8. DePaul
9. Seton Hall
10. Providence

Boy, that hurts with friars at the bottom. Oh well.

I have a "lurker" since this season started off - but figured it was time to get back out and post - here are my thoughts from what I have seen so far - even though it is still way too early to take any of these rankings seriously.

Teams that look like solid NCAA tourney teams at this point...
1. Villanova
2. Creighton
3. Xavier

Should be in/Bubble Watch-
4. Georgetown

Teams with work to do...
5. Marquette
6. Butler
7. St. John's

The rest...
8. Seton Hall
9. Providence
10. DePaul

The RPI after this week has some real surprises I think...
Villanova 6
Creighton 22
Xavier 25
Georgetown 46
St John's 53
Butler 60
Providence 79
Marquette 106
DePaul 124
Seton Hall 131

I bet you most folks would be shocked to see St John's ahead of Butler right now. And also to see Georgetown so close to the both of them....

Conference rpi right now is worth looking at. That is fairly stable.

Individual tam rpi is worthless until february. Completely worthless right now.

half of the teams had RPI moves less than 10 this week. It's more stable than you would think(have to remember there's now 15 games in there of data- at that point, things start get to be more and more stable). There's only 16 games left now. 10 weeks from today is selection Sunday.

case in point on the RPI- PC had a dreadful week this week- yet dropped only from 74 to 79.

I think a lot of this has to do with a very close game vs. #2 Cuse and Wisconsin going from #20 to #4 in the time since we played them. We have no bad losses, but no good wins. The problem is that even with no bad losses, if you keep losing enough it doesn't matter. Losses are still fat L's at the end of the day. If somehow SJ rebounds and beats Nova that puts us at 10-5 (1-2) with a softer part of the schedule opening up. If we lose we are at 9-6 (0-3) and the season is over unless we make a miracle run in the BET which won't happen. We missed chances early on i.e. should have beat PSU and had as good a chance as ever to finally beat Cuse. What a difference a few games make…we were a few shots away from being #20 and 11-1 heading into Big East play with our only loss at the hands of now #4 Wisconsin. Now we are on the verge of 9-6 and 0-3 to start the conference. Unreal. Talk about how things change in a NY minute.

Margin of victory is not a factor in rpi, so the close game against cuse means nothing (although, just having cuse on your schedule helps a ton).

Rpi is as simple as (weighted win% (h= 1.4, a= 0.6) + opp win% + opp win%) / 3

And it is worthless right now for individual teams. Not worth looking at until feb 1.

We have half the data of the season- with 95% of the OOC games played now. It's not meaningless at all...

Also- the RPI isn't as simple as you make it out to be...
it's 25% your weighted win%, 50% opp win%, and 25% opp opp win%.

I thought that for the most part that once conference play started, particularly for the Power Leagues, that the rpi didn't fluctuate nearly as much if at all. If anything the numbers just go up since playing the lowest rated team in the current Big East is still in the 120's or whatever and there are plenty of top 100 and top 50 games to balance those out. Compare that to the MVC where we would get a couple of 200+ games thrown at us mid-conference season and nothing in the top 50 to balance it out; Wichita was an outlier the last season or 2.
