Xavier-Butler 1/4/14 - Water Fountain Game

If Darin Archbold shows up, I am out of there....

For those who are unfamiliar X and Butler have played some very close games the last couple years. I anticipate long term that this turns into a nice league rivalry. Had a couple classic MCC battles in the late 80s/early 90s.

Similar defensive styles, both teams seem to play smart and tough year in and year out. Should be fun.

What is the meaning of "water fountain"? Is this a traditional rivarly game?

For me personally, Butler is Xavier's biggest rival in the Big East currently. The teams have had some intense games in the past 5 years and the close geographic proximity doesn't hurt either.

Really want to beat them this year. Wish I could be at the game...when I've been to games in the past three years, X has beaten Butler all 3 times. (I wasn't able to make the game in Stinkle last year.)

There was a controversial ending in Hinkle a few years back. From an X fans blue colored glasses, some iffy timekeeping and couple tough calls. It is possible Chris Mack tore down a water fountain after the game (He paid for it and apologized).

Seems to me more of a friendly rivalry at this point, but I feel it growing. Xavier Recruits Indiana and Indianapolis specifically pretty hard, so coaches probably pitching to a lot of same players.

It was Kenny Frease who ripped the water fountain off the wall. NOT Chris Mack

Hey, to us in Rhode Island, and from what I've heard for people in Milwaukee, a water fountain is called a "bubbler". To us, a water fountain is like the Trevi Fountain in Rome or that giant fountain downtown Cincinnati. But Frease was a big guy so maybe that was possible...

Our all time record against Xavier is a less than stellar 17-31. Yes, my assumption is that to most Bulter fans, X is our #1 hated rival in the Big East. However, I don't know if the feeling is mutual.
