ACC to Barclays

Looks like the ACC has agreed to a deal with the Barclays Center. Not a lot of details out right now but the little that is coming out is that it was chosen over the B1G. Now if it's on a rotation to NYC then there should be other years the B1G can come in. We'll see when more details emerge.

So much for the ACC stealing MSG from us! hahahaha

But... but... Jay Bilas and Coach K promised that the ACC would get MSG...!

Thinking this through further... for all their posturing over the last year, this is a huge capitulation by the ACC... huge... they're trying to spin it as a win over the Big Ten, but (against our sensible discussions on other sites about the Big East's rock-solid 12 year MSG deal) they had been crowing and crowing about getting MSG all year...!

To steal a quote from Big Papi: "This is our f-ing city...!"

P.S. A big shout out to everyone who already bought tickets for the BET this coming March... including 2000+ Creighton fans...!

I think Barclay's is aiming to be an event-driven location (any event will do), while MSG is tradition-driven. Both want the $$ but they are totally different brands at the moment. Besides the ACC is simply trying to get a "foothold" in NYC not disown their southern roots/base, while the BE & MSG literally call NYC home (sorry Prov).

The ACC I think is going to be fascinating to watch. Them more than any other league I think is a hodge podge of so many different interests-football/basketball- north south, old school/new school.. I think they with all the retirements coming up of their HOF coaches will be really interesting to watch. I wouldn't be shocked to see them fall apart at the seems

Bringing the ACC tourney to Brooklyn means nothing if they are not keeping it here. One of the great things about the Big East Tourny at the Garden is that it never moves. The Garden is connected to the Big East as no other arena and conference can claim. So they come to Brooklyn once every five years or so - big deal.

totally agree. Big 8 used to be like that with KC, and I guess maybe Pac 12 with Staples Center- but that's really it. ACC/Big Ten/Big 12/SEC all float around yearly.

That's exactly the point. I think the same thing applies to OOC games too. When former BE schools schedule a few games in the NYC area it will be similar in that it's not a long term strategy for success because it's a weak connection to the area, even for Cuse. Schools like Duke, UK, UNC, etc can get away with that strategy b/c they do it in multiple recruiting hotbeds like DC, Texas, NYC, LA etc. every year. So if they get a big recruit out of one or two of those areas outside of their traditional recruiting areas a year their good. But for Pitt, Cuse, Cincy, Syr, WVU, etc. they historically recruit heavy in NYC or traditional BE areas every year and it's just not going to happen now that they aren't in the BE. Schools like SHU, SJU, etc have a long term advantage in that we play maybe 60-70% of our games in the NYC metro.

it'll be interesting to see how many games those schools get compared to what they used to get.

Not confirmed but multiple ACC boards are saying it's true. We'll see.
