From Philly.com:

"In a stunning move Friday, Temple University killed seven of its 24 intercollegiate sports programs - nearly a third - to boost funding for the remaining sports and become more competitive in the athletic conference it entered this summer...Gone are baseball and softball. Men's crew, gymnastics, outdoor and indoor track and field, and women's softball and rowing also got the ax."

Little problem for UConn known as football. They won't sacrifice it to the MAC/CUSA/SBC to come to the BE.

Sucks for the athletes in those programs. At least they'll be able to cheer on their great football team with pride!

to be fair- reading the story, I think some of those sports would have probably been gone no matter what(Rowing for instance).

I can see all of them but baseball? I have been to many SJ baseball games and we have a great team that consistently makes the tourney and was recently 1 game from the CWS. I was sitting next to Cubs and Mets scouts watching our guys. Very cool, cheap, and fun way to spend a day.

Philly is the home of the Penn Relays, and now Temple has dropped Indoor/Outdoor Track & Field....D1 Football killed them when it was supposed to be what would save them all.

I wonder what killed Providence baseball back in the '90's in the very year when it was Big East champions?

A minor realignment note here: Oral Roberts will head back to the Summit League next summer, just two years after leaving the conference for the Southland...

“The Presidents Council unanimously supported Oral Roberts University's return to The Summit League,” Dean L. Bresciani, North Dakota State University president and chair of the Summit League's Presidents Council, said in a statement."

Oral Roberts spent 15 years in the Summit, from 1997 through 2012. The basketball team went to the NCAA tournament three times during that span. ORU, 5-3 so far this season, went 20-15 a year ago and was a 13-5 team inside the Southland.
