"Creighton’s Doug McDermott earned Big East player of the week honors after leading the Bluejays to three straight wins. The forward averaged 25.7 points while shooting 55.8 percent from the floor and 53.3 percent from the perimeter. McDermott’s 3-point play with 4.9 seconds left gave Creighton a 83-79 victory over Saint Joseph’s.

Rookie of the week Tommy Hamilton IV (DePaul) leads all Big East freshmen with averages of 12.3 points and 6.7 rebounds. The center racked up 16 points and 11 boards in his debut against Grambling State."

Other Honor Rollees:


- Semaj Christon (Providence): was named to the Big East honor roll today after averaging 17.3 points on 60.6 percent shooting in the Musketeers’ 3-0 start. He averaged 3.7 assists.

- Cleveland Melvin (DePaul): The forward averaged 18.7 points and 6.3 rebounds in the team’s 2-1 start. He shot 66.7 percent from the floor and perimeter.

- Bryce Cotton (Providence): The guard averaged 20.7 points, 8 assists and 3.7 assists in the team’s 3-0 start. He twice scored 28 points.

- Fuquan Edwin (Seton Hall): The guard/forward averaged 19.3 points and three steals for the 2-1 Pirates, and scored 35 points in a double-overtime loss at Mercer.

- James Bell (Villanova): The forward averaged 18.3 points and 7 rebounds in the team’s 3-0 start. He had 24 points and nine rebounds against Lafayette.
