Rumblings of SJ closing in on two 5 star recruits for 2015

Some rumors are floating around the SJ boards that these 2 recruits are all but a "lock" to sign but haven't gone public yet. If true, this would be HUGE. Two 5 star players in the same class both top 10 caliber. Would certainly help the Big East.

I assume we're talking about big men, Cheick Diallo and Thomas Bryant?

What's amazing about this is that Bryant is from West Virginia. In the old days when WVU was in the Big East, it's hard to imagine that a WestVirginia kid would not turn his back on State U to head off to St. John's. Either this kid's a transplant from NY or the move to the Big XII has hurt Bobby Huggins a lot more than anyone realized.

This would make more sense than Bryant since Briscoe is from NJ and is a much better position to agree to go as a package deal with Diallo, a LI kid.

We were. And he'd be headed to Queens if dirty recruiting i.e. a coach using his player as a bargaining chip to further his own career never happened. He wanted to go to SJ and even reached out to SJ at the last second saying that if we could take his coach too he'd come to SJ. We said take your dirty recruiting somewhere else and he chose SHU. I don't blame SHU though…you guys were in major need of a big time recruit and you used dirty but legal tactics to get him. It's just wrong for coaches to essentially pimp out their recruits for their own benefit. All things being equal, he was headed here, but we didn't give in. We weren't about to give a coaching spot just to appease a recruit.

Lavin may not be the best in-game coach, but he is easily the best recruiter in the conference. He routinely gets a ton of top 100 kids to come to a team that hasn't won a tourney game in over a decade. Now that's impressive. Just imagine if we start being successful consistently what he can pull.

lol Lavinwood just beat me to it. SHU had to hire Whiteheads HS coach for him to commit to SHU.
Lavin doesn`t have to hire HS coaches to get top ballers.

The thing is why do HS ballers let their HS coaches use them, will he give whitehead a portion of his salary?
I guess kids are dumb if they let their HS coach use them like that.

Please you play to win the game and this stuff happens all the time with recruiting there is nothing dirty about it. Larry Brown gave Emmanuel Mudiay's brother a scholarship so he would commit to SMU. It is well within the rules and IF Morton does come next year (which there is no guarantee because there is no space for him) SHU will gain an assistant with ties all throughout the NYC area. It is not like they are hiring some shmuck because his son can ball.

Id be wary about taking a lot stock in message boards about recruiting. I remember on SHU sites hearing Quadri Moore and Blaise Mbargorba were "locks" and they are now at Cinci and BU. I don't know anything about Diallo but Briscoe is getting recruited from top programs in the country. From what I understand Arizona is leading with him but he could stay local with SHU Rutgers and St Johns all going after him. I know that him and Whitehead talked about teaming up at college so I think SHU will be contenders till the end. Anyway good luck hope they stay in the Big East.
