VCU vs UVA

VCU knocked off #25 Virginia AT Virginia

Yup. A road win against a ranked ACC team. Is there any doubt that the Big East should make VCU target número uno in their proposed expansion plans?

There good, but really only under Shaka. Also, their academic profile leaves something to be desired. Basketball only? Sure. Full conference invite, I'd say no.

It was absolutely an impressive win on the road. It also benefits our conference in likely knocking Virginia out of the top 25, making room for Creighton or possibly Villanova (Georgetown probably needs a couple wins first, although it sucks to be penalized for a tough schedule). If VCU continues to perform the presidents will absolutely have to take a long hard look at them.

I have significant doubts about VCU personally. Beating Virginia doesn't change that.

I'd like to wait and see whether the Havoc defense is viable in light of the new defensive rules before making any decisions.

I'm definately keeping an eye on the possible Big East expansion candidates. That's a good win for VCU.

I love how West Virginia lost to Virginia Tech yesterday (VT is a bottom feeder in the ACC and is expected to finish in last place this year)

If VCU makes another sweet 16/elite 8 run(forget final 4), it's going to be awfully hard to ignore them. Especially given none of the other potential expansion schools come remotely close to what they've done on the floor. Also, it's not just Shaka- Anthony Grant and Jeff Capel both took them to the NCAA tournament.

For folks that just say they're public- I think that's crap. We shouldn't have a litmus test to decide who is in this conference.

Great points about Grant and Capel, Steve. The recent success isn't the product of just one guy. Just like Butler, VCU is a program. Just like Stevens, Shaka has built on the success of those who went before him. VCU has been building this program for many, many years, placing a team in the tournament in each of the past 4 decades. They finally broke through in 2011, but they'd been knocking on the door for years. Just ask Duke.

I don't know if VCU is in expansion plans. They don't really fit the private, catholic school bill.

St. Louis, Dayton, RIchmond I think should be looked at first.

I think we should root AGAINST VCU... hate to see an A10 team ranked above any Big East team.
