PROVIDENCE COLLEGE FRESHMEN AUSTIN AND BULLOCK SUSPENDED
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – It was announced today that Providence College freshmen basketball players Brandon Austin (Philadelphia, Pa.) and Rodney Bullock (Hampton, Va.) have been suspended from game action indefinitely for not upholding their responsibilities as student-athletes.
“We hold our student-athletes to very high standards,” Providence College Men’s Basketball Coach Ed Cooley said. “We are disappointed in some of the choices that Brandon and Rodney have made. Due to this, we have decided to suspend them indefinitely from any game action.”
The Friars will open the season on Friday, November 8 versus Boston College at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center at 6 p.m.

http://www.providencejournal.com/sports ... ullock.eceWow, things have gone from super exciting and optomistic to dark in the course of a week in friar town. History just keeps repeated itself over and over. Good job by Coach Ed Cooley to lay down the law immediately though. Sad.

Boy, this makes the Dunn situation almost critical. The word devastating comes to mind if he's out.

Extremely frustrating. Heading into the season last year, we were hoping to have Vince Council (BE all time leader assists), Bryce Cotton (BE leading scorer), and two top 20 5star recruits in Rick Ledo (ineligible), Kris Dunn (injury). Deflating but still managed to have a good year.
Fast forward a year and Ledo (left for nba), Dunn (injury), Cotton (knee not 100%), Austin (indefinite suspension)...every time it looks like the talent is there to finally turn the corner. Bad news, but we all believe in Cooley and he is doing the right thing.

Wow, unbelievable.
Friday's active roster vs BC, assuming Dunn needs rest and no Austin or Bullock, will be:
Backcourt: Cotton, Fortune, Bancroft, and walk-on Woodring.
Frontcourt: Harris, Henton, Batts, and Desrosiers; with Goldsbrough (member of the Toon Army) and Kofane.
From the "Rose Colored Glasses" Department:
Last year was a 3 point loss on the road at BC.
The roster changes between now and then:
Tyler Harris and Desrosiers are now with us; Dunn is out.
Last year's active roster vs BC was Cotton, a gimpy Dunn, Fortune, then-walk-on Bancroft, Henton, Batts, Goldsbrough and Kofane. I think we played with 8 guys, including a walk-on. We had a small lead until Batts fouled out with around 10 minutes left.
Dunn last year had just returned from his injury vs Colgate, so BC was his second game back. Still had a gimpy shoulder. Council didn't return til the next game at Brown.
Anyway, especially at home, we have a solid group of guys active that can still beat BC.

Just looking at the stats Dunn had 5 pts but 6 assists in 27 minutes. That's not too bad 2nd game back or not. (1st game think I saw he had 13 assists)
Think the key would be Cotton if he can play major minutes. Last year he had 33 pts in 40 minutes vs BC.

Freshman aren't the freshman that we think of 10-15 years ago even. More and more step on the floor day 1 and just take over.
