First Four leaving Dayton?

I've always wondered why these games are played in Dayton but then again I'm not sure how much support they'd get in major markets. Sounds like the NCAA denied their request past 2015 and might rotate sites.

I've wondered for awhile if the NCAA would get smart and start shopping these games around. No surprise that they would want to go with a "highest bidder" location.

Andy Glockner just tweeted that it should be in Omaha. Omaha does great support for the CWS and the two times they've hosted the NCAA tourney, they've sold out....sounds good to me.

I imagine the fans have to pay a pretty penny to go to these games played between teams they don't care at all about. I would think that would be a hard thing to get people excited about.

Apparently not only Glockner. I'd feel bad if Dayton got beat out of joining the Big East by Creighton and then lost this to them too.

There aren’t many places that would embrace games between the four worst automatic bids and the four worst at-large bids, but Dayton does. It’s easy to wonder why the NCAA would ever mess with success like that, especially when you consider just how difficult it has been in the past to fill seats at neutral site NCAA tournament games.

But it’s also important to remember that Dayton isn’t the only small town with a healthy college hoops appetite.

Creighton was sixth in the nation in attendance, pulling in 17,155 fans per game this past season, despite playing in the Missouri Valley. The school is located in Omaha, NE, which has already proven capable of handling an NCAA postseason, as it hosts the College World Series. Isn’t that at least worth consideration?

Truthfully, as a Creighton fan and Omaha native I absolutely don't want this to come to Omaha even if we could support it. I much rather have the rotating NCAA tourney 2nd and 3rd rounds that we seem to be on a schedule of getting every 3-4 years (2008, 2012, 2015). I wouldn't want to give up the 2nd and 3rd rounds even for one rotation just to have the First Four. The only acceptable way this would be good in Omaha is if we continue to get the 2nd and 3rd rounds every 3-4 years and they manage to rotate the first four to Omaha in between the years we are hosting the 2nd and 3rd rounds.

I bet it would do well in Omaha, but now that we are in a power basketball league I don't think Omaha is the best fit. The First Four rings out "not quite big time". Dayton would be a good fit or maybe Des Moines or Wichita.

If we can still host 2nd and 3rd round games I'd be for it, otherwise no thanks.

I know someone who would agree with you 1000%.

Dayton has had both the "first round" and 2nd & 3rd in the same season.....like last season. They are not an exclusive deal.

I don't know what the first round costs, but I'm unwilling to pay the $1000+ face for 4 seats that the 2012 Omaha site games cost for those games. And years they had both I'd definitely be out on that because I can't swing both.
