How consistent have the schools of the new Big East been in the recent past in making deep runs in the NCAA tournament?

That's 9 trips to the Elite 8 in 11 years. Only 3 conferences have done better -The new ACC, the new SEC, and the Big XII with 10 apiece. (I'm using the post-expansion membership. So, Louisville, for example counts for the ACC.). Here's the list by conference:

ACC - 10 years (19 total appearances)
B12 - 10 years (17 total appearances)
SEC - 10 years (14 total appearances)
BEC - 9 years (9 total appearances)
B1G - 8 years (10 total appearances)
Pac - 6 years (7 total appearances)
AAC - 5 years (6 total appearances)*
A10 - 4 years (4 total appearances)
MVC - 1 year (1 total appearance)

*I did not count Memphis' 2008 run because it was vacated.

Since 2004, only 2 current ACC schools have made the Elite-8. Duke and UNC. None of the other 10 schools have reached the Elite-8 in that time. Amazing considering the praise they get.

The 10 "new" Big East schools have had 5 different Elite-8 schools in the last 7 years. Georgetown, Villanova, Marquette, Xavier and Butler. Amazing considering some of the criticism they get.

It would be nice if the league would start a PR campaign to get this info out to people who are criticizing the league.

Totally agree. Most people would think w/o Syr/ Pitt/ Louis the impact of the Big East was lost. I was a little surprised myself at those numbers. Not bad to inform others of the success of "the current Big East" in promos once we get leadership in place.

Unfortunately the "positive" past of the Big East will be overlooked by the naysayers and this season will be a moratorium on the conference. Better make some noise right out of the gate.
