Tough fall ahead for FOX (or tough first few weeks as Stever would say).

which ones would you rather watch?
Texas A&M/UCLA
Maryland/Texas
Purdue/Louisville
Nebraska/Oregon
Stanford/USC
Minnesota/Oregon St

or
South Carolina/NC State
Florida/Michigan
Alabama/Florida St
LSU/BYU
Va Tech/West Virginia
Tennessee/Ga Tech
Cincy/Michigan
Pitt/Penn St
Auburn/Clemson
Oklahoma/Ohio St
Utah/BYU

Like it or not, the first 2 weeks of Fox's coverage isn't good.

ESPN/ABC gets 3 of the 4 CFP teams in week 1 and then in week 2 gets 3 of the 4 again. In those 6 games- you get Alabama/Florida St, Clemson/Auburn, and Oklahoma/Ohio St.

Let's make sure to confine this discussion to the first two weeks only. That way you can boost the confidence of the ESPN Hindenburg mothership crew. Just don't ask them about anything beyond that.

And this college football lineup is ESPN's lifeblood. They HAVE to win with their college football lineup. Fox is years ahead of schedule with no pressure. The fact that we're even discussing both networks on the same playing field is unbelievable... would have been considered impossible back in 2013.

And to answer your question, the i'd rather watch a weekend marathon of Matlock with my eyes propped open Clockwork-Orange-style than ever consider watching freakin' NC State-South Carolina, or LSU-BYU... or an ACC game that doesn't include Clemson or FSU, and even then you'd have to offer free ice cream or something.

I think a problem (this isn't a negative... just an observation) in many of your talking points is that you are Louisiana-based originally, and not from Big East country... yes you're in DC, but you approach things from a different regional perspective, constantly... as though any New Yorker or Chicagoan really gives 2 shits about turning on a Tennessee vs Georgia Tech game any more than a Nebraska-Oregon game, other than maybe reflexively flicking on ESPN, which will be changing soon anyway. It's like my North Providence cousin who moved to Tampa and is shocked and pissed that no one down there will talk about the NHL Bruins.

ESPN doesn't put everything in it's first 2 weeks. Not by any stretch. ABC/ESPN gets Half the Big Ten, Half the Big 12, Half the Pac 12, All of the ACC, and 2/3 of SEC. That's a lot of good stuff they have the option to get.

Now, personally I agree wth you on NC State/South Carolina. But is it any worse than Louisville/Purdue?

also, btw, I'm not from Louisiana at all. DC native my entire life.

I don't think your hope of folks not reflexively turning on ESPN is all that realistic. ESPN still has a ton of volume. Until that changes, ESPN is still the 2 ton gorilla in the room. In the college sports game, there are 2 packages locked up past 6 years from now....

Stever, you really are exhausting. Almost an entire thread of you trashing the first 2 weeks of FOX's college football season schedule - which without question is the best in FOX's history.

And if you think there is that much more interest nationally in a Pittsburgh-Penn State football game than a USC-Stanford football game that the Pitt Panthers are going to "trounce" USC and Stanford, not sure what to tell you.

Regardless, who cares? Who are allegedly a Georgetown fan and Big East fan. What is your motivation in coming here and immediately after FOX announces their best college football lineup in history with the Big 10, Big 12 and Pac 12, you play doomsday Debbie downer for all the reasons its bad for FOX. It's odd behavior for a Georgetown fan.

The funny thing is, Georgetown is by far the biggest failure in the NBE so far. We should all be complaining about how shitty they are becoming. But we don't, because aren't sadists like stever.

No kidding ABC/ESPN will have better games in many cases. They own 100% of the ACC. Other than the top game of the SEC that goes to CBS, all of the rest they own. ESPN has 50% of the Big Ten, Big 12 and Pac-12.

To act like FOX has garbage games the first two weeks is laughable and rather a stupid comment. Funny, no comment when October gets rolling as FOX and FS1 will have 7 combined games on it's network! Live sports drives the bus and FS1 is getting that.

Fox has 1 week with 7 games combined. October 7.

Big 12 has 4 games that week-
West Virginia/TCU
Iowa St/Oklahoma
Kansas St/Texas
Texas Tech/Kansas

Big Ten has 6 games that week-
Michigan St/Michigan
Wisconsin/Nebraska
Maryland/Ohio St
Minnesota/Purdue
Penn St/Northwestern
Illinois/Iowa

Pac 12 has 5 games that week-
Arizona/Colorado
Oregon St/USC
Stanford/Utah
Wash St/Oregon
Cal/Washington

So 15 games between the 3 conferences. But not exactly a lot of great games. Something we see- there's really only going into weekend like 4 or 5 games tops that are extremely watchable.

As far as Xavier4036's comment- the problem with your statement is that Pittsburgh/Penn St will be going up against TCU/Arkansas and that's pretty much it. USC/Stanford will be going up against Oklahoma/Ohio St. And Georgia/Notre Dame. And Clemson/Auburn. USC/Stanford will be the 4th most watched game of that slot. And yes, Pitt/Penn St will crush it.

It may be Fox's best lineup in history, but the fact is ESPN in college football is still light years ahead. And there's nothing Fox can really do about it for 6 years, until the SEC tier 1 and Big Ten come up for rebids.

The thing I will say that is good about Fox is that they're airing a lot more games than they did last year. So while games like UTEP/Oklahoma week 1 have no business being on network TV- it's good that they're on TV. Last year FS1 1st 2 weeks aired 6 games, and Big Fox aired 1. go to week 3 and it was 7 and 2 respectively. This year 1st 2 weeks- Big Fox has 5 games and FS1 has 6. go to week 3 and it's 7 and 7. Kind of interesting with that- we're seeing Big Fox pick up more games than FS1- at least early.
