Seriously it is year two of a decade long deal. Why nitpick stuff. The ratings this year improved from last across the board. The fox national games were great. Things keep getting better. We don't have a now or never mandate, we are growing together.

The Simpsons started on the Tracy Ulman show and nobody knew anything about them for almost half a decade. Thirty years later the show is doing fine. Thanks to fox patience and eye for opportunity and investment in long term ambitions. Fox News took a while to catch cnn before passing it by. And fox don't have to pass espn by to be a success. They just want to be in the game.

except the problem is sports is a lot different than network or news. Network you can spend $$$ and get good shows. news, you don't need live rights. Sports you absolutely need live rights. And sorry- but if Fox doesn't pick up live rights, they aren't going to be in the game. And remember- NBA- gone thru think 2024 or 2026 now. NHL gone thru 2021. NFL gone thru 2022. So no pro sports except for MLB for at least 6 more years.

The dearth of pro sports available to Fox SN must be a very serious concern to them. I am not sure what MLB draws but I can never watch more than 4 or 5 minutes of a match before turning to ESPN or a commercial channel. It is also likely that Fox can not get a G5 conference for football because ESPN owns over half of the post season bowls and has never been overly generous to schools who leave them. I do believe we and Fox can have some future together but am uncertain of what it is and how long they will continue to pay us at the current level. Clearly we do bring some value to Fox, hopefully it is adequate for their needs.

We have done our part (POY in year 1, 2nd best conference in year 2). At this point we are getting the short end of the deal because Fox hasn't done enough to bring viewers to their channel.

The ratings are mentioned where? Jay bilas bashes the big east segment of espn? Whatever. Don't be so insecure. Jay bilas can bash the conference, he is throwing pebbles at a lava flow. The big east is getting it done. This is a marathon and our times are perfectly fun thus far. Go ahead and quote some one who wanted better results, but I'm not buying it

Exactly.

It amazes me how some people around here cannot grasp the long-term nature of this whole thing.

Fox is doing their part. The marketing has been more than acceptable. The individual player commercials during the nfl games are recruiting gold. The big east tourney commercials with the mascots have me contemplating the flight out to NYC.

We are growing together. The results keep improving. That's what matters. This is a long term plan.

But the question is, especially if the Big Ten doesn't come to Fox, what is going to exactly change in the next 5 years to bring more eyeballs? After the Big Ten, there's just nothing out there to really bid on that could help out FS1 at all.

Agree with theball. Look at the recruits lined up for next yr... The big east has momentum and a lot of it has to do with fox. Jay wright has said countless times that being able to tell a recruit that all of his games will be on national tv is a enormous advantage. The ratings are up from last yr and no reason to think this trend won't continue. Now that Stever's other pessimistic predictions have failed to come true (big east recruiting can't be sustained, Xavier is in trouble for the tourney, etc) he's moved on to bash fox. The fact that Stever is attacking it, makes me feel good given his track record.
