They did trap him in the corner. He saw the baseline and took it. Maybe he should have just continued dribbling past the basket but they had not backed off defensively.

Nice win by St. John's. X and PC are falling apart it seems. Could be a doomsday scenario of just 2 bids. More likely probably 3. As for the last play, I tend to disagree. PC was letting St. John's dribble out the clock and yet Pointer decides to pad the stats and dunk the ball. Derosiers did the right thing.

PC was letting Pointer dribble it out? They were f`ing double teaming him, Dom got free and saw an opening to the basket. Derosiers fouled him.
Dom held back and walked away, why did he follow Dom and grab his arm? The play was over.

PC was NOT double teaming Pointer. That is an absolute fabrication and total BS.

We saw how much of a punk Pointer was in the Creighton game and he just reinforced the rep tonight.

Lol @ the clear anti-SJ bias. THEY TRAPPED HIM! It's like Japan in WWII…they were given their chance to surrender and they didn't. So we dropped the bomb. Why are you mad at SJ for essentially saying "Ok, you are not going to just let me dribble it out…I will keep playing then"? Most teams in PC's situation would back off 3 feet, let the clock run out and shake hands. Instead they try to trap him, then when he tries to break it and go for a dunk they foul him hard and DeRosiers grabs him. That is ALL the aggression of PC. Like I said…PC is lucky DeRosiers wasn't torn in 2 pieces after that stunt. If you keep playing hard d, what do you expect him to do, give the ball up? This is an in your face hard-slamming team…they aren't going to roll over for you or feel bad for you.

I said "yes" to the idea that we should wait until the end of the season before deciding who the conference POY is.

Um...no. We don't need to wait. DM is pretty much hands down National POY as well as BE POY. No need to worry about that one. The precincts are already closed.

Barring a catastrophic injury to Doug in the next 4-5 games, I agree that Doug is most likely run away National POY. But if Creighton hits some second half struggles and tumbles down the standings and rankings, this could change. Nothing is ever set in stone... but as of right now the award is Doug's to lose. Still plenty of games out there though, you never know...

I want to give credit to the Friars on a great comeback in the second half. Man, I was really getting nervous there, and was really stoked to get a great road win at Providence. Really happy to see us play a perfect first half. You PC guys have a great team and some guts, and I can see why you're in 3rd place in the Big East. I hope our hot streak continues against Creighton because it seems like we're really coming together as a team finally (better late than never). And it'll be great for the BE to showcase CU and SJU on a Sunday night from MSG.

On the Pointer thing, I thought he was wrong trying to dunk... a really poor decision even if it looked like a double-team was coming on... Pointer should've dribbled past the hoop. He definitely shouldn't have thrown a forearm at Desrosiers. It looked like Desrosiers grabbed at him afterwards only just to shake hands and kind of make up. Good thing Pointer didn't start a fight cuz Desrosiers is 7 feet tall and 270 lbs, and Pointer is 8 inches shorter and I don't think his mouth can make up for Desrosiers' frame.

Anyway, it seems like other SJU fans agree, cuz here are a few comments from the SJU board:
- Pointer is the biggest ass in red storm history. WTF is he doing
- I hope Lavin suspends pointer. That was dumb and classless
- There is NO excuse for Dom trying to dunk that ball.
- Derosiers would have been justified in putting Dom in the balcony for bush league stuff
- Dom is a straight up idiot. I'm sick of his antics.
- Pointer showing no class by going the rim.. i dislike Dom's attitude. He has a lot of punk in him that is troubling.Showing up PC BY TRYING TO DUNK WAS WRONG.
- Classless move by Pointer. Butthead.

So a "classy post" must include the following: 1) self-deprivation 2) submissiveness 3) bashing our own players 4) wishing the opponent beat us up 5) calling our own players names…hmm…I think it's safe to say I will never be called a "classy" poster then. No need for apologizing about winning a game we should have. If it comes off as arrogant then cry me a river, build me a bridge and get over it. It's the truth. We had nearly 3 guys score 20 points tonight. The better team won. PC did a great job getting to 3rd place, but SJ and PC are going in 2 different directions. We are deep and peaking late after a horrid start. PC is not deep at all and started off red-hot but is now cooling off. These are not insults or low blows, these are facts. And that Johnnies fan should stop lying. The majority of posters in the SJ forums are saying Pointer was wrong initially, but they went back to look at the replay and they realized he was trapped in the corner and didn't mind what he did as a result. DeRosiers went to grab Pointer to try and make peace? LOL. Yeah okay. All you had to do was see the body language and the look on his face. PC had 3 aggressive incidents in the final seconds. 1) the attempt to trap when they already lost the game 2) the hard foul when the game was over 3) the grabbing of Pointer. Looking back, I'm glad Pointer tried to dunk it then. I'm only upset that he can't face PC 1 more time and posterize some PC players with vicious dunks. What team traps the other with seconds left with the game already lost? That's ridiculous. By the way, I wouldn't be surprised if that "Johnnies fan" is a PC or Creighton fan in disguise.

Look, you (specifically) have dragged this board through the St John's Five Stages of Grief over the last month or two, every freakin day. Scores of us have talked you down from the window ledge and have been pulling for you since the tip off vs Wisconsin. After all this, you start talking smack on the board, and it's going to raise some eyebrows and some of us don't want to hear it. I've been in St John's's corner the whole time.

Honestly, this is a fantastic win for St John's. You guys played excellent ball, and I really seriously think it could be the start of or a continuation of a hot streak. (I missed the Marquette game, but it seems to have played out similar to tonight's game). But it seems like yesterday, but it was 2 weeks ago maybe, that I was chugging Pepto Bismol during your home game vs Dartmouth. I mean, c'mon...

PC had stopped fouling and conceded the game. All that was left to do was let time expire. Was PC still playing defense? Yes. Was PC fouling? No. Clearly PC had conceded. Pointer dribbles it out and St. John's wins and moves on. Instead Pointer tried to rub PC's nose in it and PC gave a hard foul. Completely unnecessary punk move by Pointer which just makes St. John's look bad after they played well. Not the impression you want to leave.
