# 186 Wagner beat # 19 UConn tonight 67-58 at UConn. The Huskies are ranked # 18 in the AP Poll and # 16 in the Coaches Poll.

Two alarming early losses have UConn searching for answers - Jeff Eisenberg - The Dagger - November 15, 2016

Wagner followed their win over UConn with an 11-point setback against mighty UMass Lowell [ranked # 292 by CBS Sports].

The Huskies shot just 37.8 percent from the field against Wagner, hit only 6 of 19 threes and dished out just nine assists. They fared no better against Northeastern, shooting only 39.1 percent from the field and 5-for-21 from behind the arc.

It's kind of dumb to use this. I mean, look at the wins that the Big East has. 1 of the what 14 now means anything- and 2 inside the top 100. Cincy and SMU are going to be good teams this year.

And UConn has the schedule Maui, Syracuse, Ohio St, Auburn, Georgetown. IF they bounce back with playing better teams, the 2 bad losses won't hurt them much at all.

Northeastern has been upticking if we ever expand into Massachusetts.
Good team, good coach, downtown Boston, private, school is growing, and some great wins in recent years.
The CAA has been solid recently too. Keep an eye on these guys.
They're on the border of being a legitimate candidate.

What this shows is that national programs who lose a HOF coach can't always just keep rolling without some set backs. Ollie can cerainly recruit. Might be becuase he is a former NBA player or that he has a ring, but he is getting talent there. HIs X's and O's might just not be up to par. For programs like UNC (Matt Doherty) and UK (Billy Gillespie) they often recover from bad hires because they are a blue blood and their alumni and administration will do anything to maintain that level of excellence. But for someone like a UCONN, although they have 4 NC's they are not a true Blue Blood. And let's face facts that there are aspects of the AAC that ARE a tough sell. UCONN v Tulane or ECU or Tulsa just doesn't carry much juice. So I may not agree that UConn is necessarily toast this year or in the near future, their performance since the NC has been so below what can normally be expected from a program like UConn.

And Stever, you are right that they have some chances to get big wins, but starting 0-2 to two non-tourney teams (NCAA or NIT or CBA) on your home floor, is not a good sign and will really damage their KPI/Kenpom #'s.

But recruiting hasn't dropped off for UConn. If anything, it's picked up in the AAC(part of that is the exposure that was in the old Big East was really not that good at all compared to what both the New Big East and the AAC have gotten).

About your 2nd point- at least last years committee viewed teams losign to bad teams, but then beating good teams as being stronger than the opposite. So if UConn goes to Hawaii and beats Oklahoma St and UNC- they're viewed as being better in the committee's eyes than if they had lost to those teams, but beat Wagner and Northeastern. Not really sure I agree with that- but it definitely showed last year.

All I was saying with the bracketology is that if you're 6-8 seed, you have a very good chance of playing on the road in the NCAA tourney. That's it.

we'll learn a ton more about all teams in the next 2 weeks. I mean right now, how much do we know about St John's? Playing 338 Bethune Cookman and 258 Binghamton doesn't reveal a whole hell of a lot.
