Also, the AAC fans been soooooooooooooo nasty and have a pipedream of adding a Western wing that includes the Zags. Love to stick it to them and that putz, Aresco, again.

Hey HuskyU. I totally agree on adding Gonzaga. (Big split on this site due to distance and travel issues).

The St Bonaventure reference was referring to a Bonnies fan (great poster named JPSchmack) who basically pitched St Bona as a team that would willingly go 2-16 each year to feed 2 extra wins to the midpack teams. It got only light support if any.

To me, i say add the best teams available and stack the conference. To me, the goal is to be the TOP conference every year.

If you have time and interest, the hundreds of threads on this site since December 2012 might be pretty entertaining for you to read through.

Anyway, welcome to the Holy Land brother.

Long-time reader, first time poster. Saw of few posts in this thread that I wanted to comment on. For example someone said VCU would not make the American a better conference. How could this be exactly? Whether or not UConn leaves, how could adding another quality basketball-centric program be a bad thing (setting aside revenue sharing issues)?

Speaking of the American, I do think they should go after Western teams like Gonzaga and BYU. They were willing to add Boise and SDSU at one point, what's the difference? They could improve basketball and football by doing this. Gonzaga must have been seriously tempted to join the MWC, I would imagine that temptation could only be greater if the American came calling and BYU, Boise St., SDSU were part of the equation. Hell half the conference is already located in what us Easterners might call "the West."

The last thing I noticed in this thread is an assumption that UConn is going to walk into the Big East and be a top team. Have y'all not been paying attention to UConn hoops lately? How are they going to be a top team in the BE if they haven't been one in the AAC? They are under .500 the last two years and only one game over .500 the year before that. Don't get me wrong UConn is an obvious addition to the BE and probably the best school available in the current landscape, but let's pump the brakes on them coming in and beating up on people.

Lastly I have a question. I read somewhere that at 12th a BE team would mean something in the neighborhood of $100 million in extra TV money. What would this mean for the members already in? Would that mean substantially more money, or would it be a wash given that you'd have to split it with another member?

There's been reports that should the conference expand to 12 teams, the Fox deal would go from 500M to 600M so there's no change in payments to anyone. I'm sure it's a little more complicated than that, but that's the simplified version. These things are easily amended with changing circumstances, so I wouldn't expect it to be something set in stone. We'll just have to wait and see what's in the store.

As for your point about VCU, I'm higher on them than most here, but let's get real uconn's ceiling is infinitely higher than VCU's.

Sure. I wasn't suggesting they'd "replace" everything UConn brings, just that they'd be a nice addition regardless.

That team 11 and 12 for the 600 million was St. Louis & Dayton.

Someone on boneyard mentjoned that adding UCONN would trigger renegotiation of TV contract that would end up being higher than what the American is getting current (7 million/year), we shall see but you have to believe this will raise the value of the TV deal eventually.

I didn't know about this. If this is true, I can smell some good news coming our way. Also, the door isn't slam shut on the A10 schools. They'll just have to become Gonzaga-lite, or make a couple of final fours Butler style, or become a national brand somehow.

Meaning that the 100 million was dependent upon teams 11 and 12 being SLU and UD?

It's interesting. Boneyard posters are questioning its credibility tho. We shall see.
