St. Joe's holds on to beat #21 UMASS. Helps out Creighton and Villanova.

Nice win by Cal beating #1 Arizona. Gives Creighton another Top 50 RPI win!

A win by a team that lost to a Big East team helps every team in the Big East because it improves everyone's strength of schedule. Yesterday's Georgetown win helped everybody. Since they were #6 in RPI, it was huge for the conference.

South Florida's RPI was 160+ or something.

So SMU dropped from RPI of 42 to RPI of 50.
Significant because SMU is the American's best chance for a 5th NCAA spot.

SMU follows up this loss though by beating Memphis. If SMU wins their last 5 games against the easier teams in the conference(UCF, Temple 2x, Houston, and Rutgers), they will be at 22-9. That's almost for sure good enough to get them in.

Minnesota lost in 3-OT's to Purdue tonight.

- Minn has lost three straight, to weaker B1G schools of Nebraska, Northwestern and Purdue.
- After the Purdue loss tonite, Minnesota dropped to #45 in RPI.
- They are the 6th team in the B1G in RPI... the 7-12 teams in the B1G have RPI's of 70 or worse.
- The Big East has RPIs of (4) PC at 51, (5) Georgetown at 55, and (6) St John's at 65, all better than the B1G's 7th place team.
- So, the B1G has 5 teams locked into the NCAAs, but Minn has really put a 6th bid in jeopardy.

LSU lost to #145 Georgia tonight, dropping LSU to #64, below PC and Georgetown, and now only one in front of St John's.
This is the flip-side of the argument where people say BE teams have fewer chances for wins vs "elite" teams... in other conferences, there are more chances for bubble teams to lose to poor opponents. Most bubble teams have enough holes in their game where losses to Georgia or Northwestern are very possible. But if PC for example loses to Marquette, it's not a "bad" loss.

St. Joe's beats VCU, should be another top 50 win for Creighton and Villanova.

true, but St Joe's now 16-7 and with a pretty good shot now to get up to 20 or 21 wins. Will be a very interesting team come tourney time...

SMU plasters Cincy. Folks, SMU is now 3-2 vs the big 4 in the AAC. they are tourney bound almost certainly now. I told folks SMU was a team you shouldn't sneeze on- and just think, they get even better next year with a top 5 recruit.
