No matter what happens in college football, we are going to have our teams play their first conference games at some point. Might as well throw them all on the same day in a back to back to back to back format. If what you are saying is true, that no other sports in the world will be watched that day, then what is fox going to do? Run infomercials all day? And also you are claiming that we will never again have a fs1 game once the big 10 and nba come to town, so we should be grateful to have this marathon on fs2 and go on with it.

This is why I don't think you are realistic. You are the guy who won't have a birthday party for your kid because there might be something else going on that day.

We just have to do our thing. Fox has shown us serious commitment, no need to doubt that. We need to expect fox to up inventory, but we are still in great shape. Improved fox inventory will increase the network as a whole and help us all. We have to just run our games, and don't worry about whether espn is showing some college football games. I want to watch college basketball. I know I am the minority, but espn is going to show football whether or not I want to watch it, and I am glad that we are going to have our games on so I can watchj those. Meanwhile american conference fans are stuck watching internet streamed games.

There's no harm in doing it on the 30th. If anything it is a plus for that 10pm game to not have to go up against the ball drop. Networks regularly when another network has a mega hit won't broadcast anything of value up against it. Fox wants value for it's telecasts. Going up against 2 of the top 5 football games of the entire year is just suicide. Why would Fox want to do that when if they do it 1 day earlier the day gets many times the viewers.

SteveR and FF2, please:
1. Read more and post less (a New Year's resolution gift to us all!?)
2. Choose the PM function to argue a topic incessantly (or use text and tweets like my kids)
3. Choose the CSNbbs Big East forum as your sole choice for argument and negativity you both seem so fond of (Lavinwood, please take note).

I have been following this great forum since it's birth, and enjoying a new forum family. Most on a good forum understand they are about sharing passion, info/learning, and reasonable discussion, and most who mostly read and not post get tired of bickering, nitpicking and gloom and doom.

Don't kill this site before it grows up, which has already happened to the "other" Big East forum for most of us.
Thanks,
Jay Dog
SO pumped to be a member of the new Big East!

Jay dog, its one thread. We are both addressing each others points. No harm.

Stever, regarding why not do it one day earlier:
Not many people tend to have dec 30 off, a lot of people have dec 31 off.

And my guess is those games got the typical 60k-150k viewers, 0.10 rating. I don't think that would change all that much if it were against college football games. The people who are tuning in are fans of the league, and are watching it no matter what football game is on.

That's why I welcome the nba or big 10. Add viewers to the overall fox family. Put more of our games on fs2, that's fine. Because hopefully the fs1 games will start drawing 300k-600k viewers, and the fs2 games can draw 100k-200k viewers, and that can increase with time.

Love the potential of fox. Best thing we ever did was leave espn.

I'd actually think the ratings would be much stronger than that this year. I think you are supposing that fans of the Big East aren't football fans- and I just don't think that's the case. I know I like football a lot- and especially will like the playoffs.

I think most places don't give you either Dec 30 or 31 off quite frankly. I know where I work, that's the case- always is(unless NYD is a Saturday).

I think new year's day would be perfect for the conference opening marathon.

Whatever day they chose, I just hope they don't overthink it and continue doing it.

And even if it runs against football, so what. It is a day sports fans are watching tv. They might focus on the football, but check out the basketball at times too. We're talking about a marathon here, we don't need people glued to their seat all day. Just check some of it out.

New Year's Day would be even worse quite frankly. Got the Rose Bowl Parade early- but more importantly still 3 big football games- but then also the Winter Classic(which gets better and better ratings each year) in hockey.

And not a single one of those events are going to be airing on my television.

Go with new year's day!!!

Don't worry about what others are showing. Just put out the best content we can.

but you see- it's not our choice. It's Fox. End of the day it's totally their choice when to maximize the value of their programming.
