They just updated the stat sheet - Simmons finished with 15 boards (not 20). Still - an impressive stat nevertheless.
When Ellenson fouled out, the team played scared and not to lose - and it showed immensely. No one wanted the ball on the press, and everyone backed off to avoid touching the ball. LSU felt this and double and triple teamed the ball at every chance. Duane Wilson, for the second time this season, hoists up an unnecessary three pointer that could have cost us the win. Although it's only his second year playing, he's a redshirt sophomore - he needs to figure this out.
Marquette badly needed this win (national television, ranked opponent). Happy we got it, but there is a tremendous amount of work to be done. Yes, we are mostly freshmen, but the group's collective basketball IQ is very low - the 22 turnovers are an example of this.
Bottom line, the win should give the group confidence, which is what the team needs more than anything right now.
