Georgetown has impressed as has Smith, even though who knows what we will get from him moving forward, no guarantees. Providence clearly belongs, Xavier hasn't proven anything and needs to step up and schedule someone in the future.

National analysts agree with the OPs sentiment, putting Gtown into the top 25 and 1, though you probably should Providence in there first after today's win.

Georgetown didn't look amazing against TAMUCC, but that team just beat SLU so they may not be good, but they aren't terrible.

Creighton had a nice win against OK, but save that 2nd half has look terribly mediocre.

St John's continues to blow, can't believe how terrible they've looked, including barely escaping non DI Franklin Pierce. Marquette is an embarassment as has been their program for the past year given the politics etc. To their credit, Ellenson is coming in, which is great for the conference.

We still need to grow to 12 SOON, hopefully with SLU/Dayton and VCU, though it's not likely to happen.

To respond to your comment on Xavier's schedule.

1) We are a very young team, and large OOC opponents likely wouldn't bode well
2) We did schedule the best of the mid-majors (LBSU just beat Kansas State)
3) Don't think we could've predicted that Wooden Legacy would be such a stinker of a tourney

Have you watched them play at all? They have looked very sharp.

Yup, I have. Strong on offense, I'll give you that.... in many ways though strength coming in ways that just won't be available against Big East competition. I'm not sure the defense was as impressive.

I'd be thrilled if they were good and hope they are. They saved the conference last year and I appreciate that.

Ease up on the hyperbole there. Marquette has been one of the best private schools in the country for over a decade now. Georgetown, Nova, Marquette. You could throw Butler in there as well, based on the two national championship appearances. We may be on a slide right now, but we'll be better once Fischer shows up and we have a great recruiting class coming in with the probability for immediate impact. You know what's embarrassing? Not knowing how to spell embarrassment.

Marquette needs to get its house in order and there is no evidence it has done so yet.

Always interesting when a newb comes to a site spouting opinions like they're facts. Calling for expansion too.

Nice start. You're on your way.

Here I come riding high off PC's big win today, but to me it's absurd that PC wasn't in this conversation from the word go. In fact the only lock at the top to me coming into this season was Nova because they were so good wire to wire last year and returned so many.

Now to be sure PC is YOUNG (7 freshman)...the sample size is small but these freshman are GOOD and they're not scared of competition at all. Also Ladontae Henton is proving to be a pretty nice go to replacement for Bryce Cotton and if anyone watched the 38 he dropped on ND, many in crunch time you'd agree.

I could see a team like a PC, X, Gtown or Nova finishing anywhere in the top spots depending on injuries and how things play out. I think those are your likely leaders this season, but then I'm sure someone from another program is going to write something similar asking me why I excluded them. Lol.

I mean you can't blame anyone for not predicting providence to be THAT good this year.

There were a lot of question marks after the departure of cotton and that other dude that left. Can't think of his name at the moment, but he hit some big 3s against St. John's in the big east tournament game and was a good player.

Also, with Dunn being injured so much, no one knew what to expect.

On top of that, no one know Henton was going to be this dominant, I mean holy crap he looked like an all American out there today.

My top 3 right now would be Nova, providence, Xavier in that order. Creighton and Georgetown will be 4 and 5. St. John's, the hall, and butler will be 6-8 and I think Marquette and DePaul will be 9 and 10 this year. But a lot of things can change. And maybe I'm being to hard on MU, they did play ohio state tough. One bad loss doesn't determine the year.

We will have to wait and see how it all plays out.
