hmmm would I bet on the potential for future success of the nBE on Buzz's intuition less than one year in or on FOX's 10 year plan....

a> fox is not a guarantee and b> you don't know what kind of place fox thought this would be right now- like for fox, is it for them ahead of schedule or behind schedule.

I think you and others fail to realize just how big ESPN is now for the kids. It is the 10 ton gorilla in the room. And much as you don't want to admit it, it's not going away any time soon

TV is all about kids wanting their family back home being able to see them play, that's it. That gets high level kids to commit to your program. High lvel kids equals deep runs in March. You have that in spades on FS1 as you can't turn on the network during the season without catching a game. That's better than Va Tech's 5 times on ESPN.

Beyond that, the viability of the network and their ability to keep paying large coin are a concern. Since it has only been one year m'thinks there is some over reaction here.

I'm going out on a limb saying there will be some shenanigans disclosed about the program PDQ that will make it very obvious what this was about.

I thought it was a mistake from thr beginning not to sign with espn. I would have taken less money for it.


However, in the end, winning as a conference in march will eventually solve all problems.

It's not about Virginia Tech though. If Buzz gets them going, they'll be on ESPN like what Maryland was this year- 15+ games. It's about Wisconsin. Illinois, Minnesota, etc. They are on ESPN a ton. That's who he was having to recruit against.

Everyone here's just got a love affair with FS1 and it's just not realistic. If Buzz in fact left because of the TV, doesn't that say something? I think he'd have a bit more perspective than any of you.

You don't jump to a joke of a school because you don't like this TV contract...

My guess is that this goes back to the departure of the previous AD and the dispute that Buzz had with him and the administration. If I'm right, the TV contract had little to do with this and Marquette's administration may be happy to see him gone.

Totally agree. with the 1st sentence.

For the 2nd part though- I think the big thing, if we struggle a few years here, and recruits start not coming to the same clip as before due to not being on ESPN, March is going to get tougher.

Secondly, no player nor coach is bigger than our conference. No player nor coach is bigger than New York, Phila, DC, Chicago and the rest. Buzz was great for the conference, but we'll move on. If Gregg Marshall signs up, it'll be fantastic. Nothing wrong with some new blood in the conference. Marquette makes BOATLOADS of money, so they'll be fine.

you have no freakin idea if i'm overstating the FS1 thing. None. Someone tweeted that was part of the reason. like it or not, but it completely fits. FS1 is not ESPN, not even remotely close.
