NCAA Tues - XAVIER vs nc state at Dayton, 9pm.

One of the strangest posts I have ever seen on a message board showed up on the UDPride board yesterday. It stated that the poster (a UD fan) was going to go to the game and root for NCState because Xavier fans still thought of UD as a rival while UD fans have moved on. The link to that post showed up on the XavierHoops board which is how I happened to see it. That post is about as delusional as you can get, I think.
Xavier will surprise. Never count them out of the Dance.

Isn't this game between NC State and Xavier? Why all of the talk about Dayton? I see nothing wrong with the UD students at the Xavier practice; I think it's fun and honestly is the only reason I really would like to see UD in the conference is because of the X rivalry. Normally I couldn't care less, but all of the Xavier posters on here make me realize that that truly is a great rivalry. If the play-in game was at Xavier and Dayton was playing, are you trying to tell me Xavier fans wouldn't be massively rooting against Dayton? I love rivalries.

About the game, it should be an entertaining ball game. I personally don't NC State has the resume to get into the tournament, but they will present a challenge to Xavier. If Stainbrook is healthy, I think Xavier should pull it off, despite all of the UD fans. Hopefully home in time to watch.

If it is not a rivalry and Xavier has moved on, why do so many Xavier fans visit UD message boards and A10 message boards? I rarely read what is on UD pride, but if you want a few laughs go to Blackburn review; there is some comical stuff over there.

I can't speak for those "so many fans" you refer to, but you may have noted that I am not one of them. I do visit the A10 Board, or at least I did until conference play began, because Xavier was a member of that conference for a long time and I miss some of the back and forth by the fans of that conference. And I am happy the conference got six bids this year, but I will be happier to defeat one of those bids on Thursday.

:?:
Dayton players/fans have been known to have had sex with watermelons. If your arena backed up with raw sewage four times a year and was considered a septic tank you might too.
Seriously? I'm not a huge Dayton fan, but they do have a passionate fan base and a nice arena. What a stupid comment. Are you in 7th or 8th grade?
Spoken like a true Dayton fan. Go and look at this guys twelve posts. Why are you on a Big East board Dayton fan? The poster asked what the reference to watermelons was about, I told him/her about the issues Dayton fans/players have with watermelons. If you have an issue with it take it up with your fan base.

I think its pathetic really, I bet Dayton fans haven't been to a single practice of Dayton's all year.

Well back to the real focus which is the game....I'll be heading up to UD tonight for the game (playing in Pep Band). I feel pretty confident of our chances. Obviously while NC State may have not had the resume, they still are a pretty good team and have a great player in TJ Warren. I am also interested to see what the atmosphere is like. I'm not too concerned whether it is full of UD fan's or not, just curious to see what the atmosphere of a First Four game is. Whether Stainbrook is 100% or not, I think that as long as Semaj and Justin Martin show up we should be fine. Reynolds and Philmore played well in the Big East tournament. NC State doesn't shoot from deep very well and isn't very good at rebounding which are both positives for X. Hopefully Xavier comes out strong, picks up the win, and sends me on to Orlando for a nice little vacation from school!

Perhaps you missed that little tidbit about the game being played in UD Arena. That reality alone will pull in comments about UD when it comes to Xavier.

I stopped caring about this rivalry after last year's Xavier game at UD, when UD fans tormented Christy Mack to the point of tears. She sought out a UD official she knew at courtside during the game for the purpose of putting a stop to it. Fans were expelled from the game. It was so bad that it made the news. There are rivalries and there are unhealthy rivalries. This has become an unhealthy rivalry. Some fans like that; the idea of "mixing it up" is appealing to them. I prefer rivalries that lean in the direction of Army/Navy (lean in that direction, knowing that rivalry can never be matched in terms of respect and class). I see Xavier having the opportunity to crank up rivalries in the Big East that look more like that than one having to deal with a delusional fanbase that believes their program is relevant, because they pack in 12k fans a game comprised of old farts in sweater vests who can recite box scores from 1971. It's a shame really, because I thought that UD made sense as a partner for a long time. Perhaps I visited UDPride once too often.

BTW, the Xavier administration hasn't forgotten what happened in that last game up there. I suspect they'll be watching what goes on there tonight. Xavier is one voice in the Big East, but it is a Big East member with a voice and vote. UD isn't exactly ringing anyone's bell for consideration as an expansion candidate, so the other President's would be inclined to listen to a member's opinion on the matter in the event expansion discussions begin. I know that X and UD have actually enjoyed a good relationship at the top for many years, regardless of what has transpired on the basketball court. However, should UD create another bad impression on X's leadership tonight, it will be reasonable to conclude that UD's chances of getting into the Big East will have ticked down, not up. I certainly don't expect UD fans to cheer for Xavier tonight, but it's the other stupid antics that will do some damage, should they occur.

Given what's at stake - Big East membership, should expansion ultimately take place - I would want to be doing everything possible to help my chances versus dropping bricks on my feet, especially knowing that my program is not perceived to be at the top of ANYONE''s candidate list.

3 point shooting-
NC State 325th best shooting team this year from 3 pt range(30.3%). X 231st best guarding the 3 (35.4%)

X barely above the national avg at offensive to % 199th- 18.7%. NC St turns over teams at 17.5%

Offensive rebounding- X is 86th best at off rembounds 34.1%. NC St is 338th best at allowing offensive rebounds(36.3%)

think 1 stat that is a concern- NC St holds the ball for 19.3 seconds per time. That's a second longer than X is used to. Also, NC State is about an inch taller on average than X is- 22nd tallest in the country.

According to Ken-Pom- Xavier is favored 74-70.

Yup I was looking at KenPom as well, was just too lazy to put the numbers in

Also, the only time, to my knowledge, that NC State faced a true pack-line defense this year was Virginia. They lost at home by 31. Not comparing Xavier's D to UVA by any stretch, but it does have the same principles.

Yup, that pretty much sums it up. My parents actually went to UD, and I hope to play the Flyers again in the future, but the rivalry was getting rather nasty. Of course, the seasons between playing them might just ferment that nastiness further rather than temper it.

Concerning Christy Mack, just for context, she is one of the best women's basketball players to ever come through Dayton and was just inducted into the Hall of Fame. She was loved by that fanbase and she has a lot of love for UD, so that is what made the brutal heckling all the worse.
