I know it seems like sour grapes and some of it is…particularly the same narrative this Johnnies team gives us every big game. Go down by double digits…appears to be over early…we make a comeback and it's a dogfight until the final minutes or even seconds. Refs miss a few calls that could have gone our way. And somehow that always gives the other team momentum to make a big shot to end it. Always. That makes the fan base want to vomit. Usually in these close games you win about 50%. This year SJ has lost every single close game except Seton Hall and even then we tried to give the game away a million times. How can any team be this unlucky? 1 bucket here and 1 call there and this is a top 3 if not top Big East team. That's why it's so aggravating. The 2014 Johnnies can beat ANYONE…ANYWHERE. I think we have proven that. The theme of the year is not closing out games and terrible luck. You would be pissed too if Creighton lost almost every close game they played and had some last second shots made on them mixed in with awful ref calls in key moments. This was supposed to be our year. Instead it's been the year of almost and what if. It's easy to call sour grapes on a down fan base. Just wait…you will be on the other side of the fence soon enough. And that's it. Not saying more about it.

Another game that had bad calls down the stretch and a good player made a big play. Another game we showed we were every bit as good as the opponent, and another game squeaks by.

Tip to you, JohnnyBoy. Teach your kids how to shoot. Kind of an important skill.

And we wonder why people from New York have such bad reputations.

It's pretty disappointing to read some of the comments from St. John's fans. I understand you've had a frustrating season but I think you should be pointing the thumb, not the finger. Outside of McDermott, you saw CU's worst collective team effort of the season. St. John's deserves the credit for that and their athleticism clearly bothered us. Unfortunately athleticism can only take you so far when you have a team who could be shot out of the gym by the New York School of the Blind. That's on your coach for putting together a team like that, not the refs or any other excuse you want to come up with. We look forward to the return game at MSG as I'm sure it will be another great game.

Finally, let's just clear the air about next year, two years from now, etc. I don't know of a single Creighton poster on this board or in general that isn't aware of the fact that the likely national POY on our team runs out of eligibility after this season. Do you really think CU is that disillusioned that we don't think we're going to take a step back? We don't need this fact pointed out to us. Creighton joining the Big East wasn't about this season, next season or the one after that. We didn't join the league for a one year shot at glory and hope to win a participation medal thereafter. What you don't realize is that this program has had a great deal of success despite a variety of obstacles, chief among them a conference affiliation that held us back from an exposure and recruiting standpoint. Has CU had the success that a lot of the other Big East schools have? Clearly not but that is what we aspire to. CU has never before been able to leverage being in a top-notch league, television exposure each night on FS1 or its new practice facility. If I'm a St. John's fan I have to wonder why my team is so average despite having all of these advantages over time. I suppose I can't blame you. I'd probably be mad that my team lost to a team that was essentially recruited to compete in a mid-major league despite playing in the largest media market in the U.S., having more local recruiting talent than anyone and getting to play home games in MSG. Judge CU 10 years from now, not the one year after it loses a national POY winner who will likely finish as a top 10 all-time scorer in the NCAA. CU's best years as a program are ahead of it, despite losing Doug.

I close with this little nugget of wisdom. Stop talking about next year because the only people who want to talk about next year are losers.

Since no one got the message last time: Maybe we need like a 24 hour moratorium on posting after an emotional win/loss. Both fans bases need to cool it a bit. Great game with an exciting finish by an amazing player. Enjoy the games guys, but don't use this forum as a place to simply throw insults around.

Geesh.... And I am the flame thrower? SJU is wicked athletic, quick as cats. It was quite a show watching them out quick and frustrate he Jays, hell CU could not even get the ball in play. Coach Mac even said that was the reason they did not foul when up by three with 2 seconds to go. Johnie, we know what it's like to loose the tight games, it was only 3 years ago. We have a very mature team. Your squad did not shoot with confidence, it will come.

JohnnyBoy wrote:Oh just wait! I can see it now. No McDermott 40 points, no automatic 3's, no Wragge, no Gibbs, etc. etc. Creighton will be the new DePaul next year. Creighton has a lot of trouble with long, athletic teams. Lucky for Creighton we have zero shooters on this team. And the calls down the stretch were atrocious. I feel terrible for this team. They fight all the way back only for the zebras to wave off a 3 point play in the final seconds. Only for McDermott to make a 3 to win it. If I'm St. John's, I tell the refs to look specifically for his hooking move. I've seen him do that countless times and never once called. I have no idea how no refs have been choked by St. John's players at this point. That's how terrible the refs have been in our close games.

To the Creighton fans that think you will take only a step back instead of a cinderblock being dropped into the ocean, you are crazy. 91% of your offense including the best player in the country are bye byes next year. I think Creighton fans will be longing for these guys just like SJ fans have been longing for another Jackson, Mullin, and Berry since the mid 80's.

We are losing the best Jay ever, we are also losing a probable NBA 3 point shooting specialist and a couple other players who will end up as coaches, it's going to suck. We won't be challenging for a B East title next year but forgive our optimism as not to be bottom dwellers. We have heard this all before, we heard it when Korver graduated, we heard it when Tolliver graduated, and Woodfox and Buford, Benjamin, House, Sears, Walker and all those teammates that made them shine. None of them (save Big Ben) had many stars after their name, some had none. You don't replace guys like those but you move on, you have faith in your system and coaches to develop that next kid with the work ethic of an South Dakota farm boy or a coaches kid with brains and a sniper quality 3 pointer. Those under the radar kids who are willing to buy-in to the idea that great things happen with hard work, some sweat and teamwork. Trust me, we will be ok, it will take time but we will be ok we are not going away anytime soon. CU is in a better conference, building better facilities as we speak, enjoying what we think will be a long term relationship with our coach and finding those kids that fit the Creighton way. We have 2 good ones coming in, a few redshirts, some young talent and one big fat scholie left to give some stud that wants to hoop in front of 17k on national tv, see all the great cities and venues of the east coast, play in MSG and maybe lead Sports Center if he works hard enough. *Edit...... Almost forgot # RollJays

Enjoy this team while you have it, Creighton fans. Won't be this good next year.

That said, no reason to talk about next year, that's sour grapes. Tougher win than it should have been, but it helps when SJU leaves the best scorer in the country wide open.

McDermott can be a one-man team for Creighton if he needs to be. He had to be, and was, today. But as a Villanova fan, no way is this a one-man team.
