I can't imagine a league like that would help UConn in recruiting, even with 4 NC's.

The Big East is perfect as is. Adding UConn isn't worth the headache.

+1 more. As with the mid-majors (Dayton, St. Louis, Davidson, etc), UConn isn't going anywhere that they wouldn't go if they were in the Big East instead of the AAC. If the Big12, ACC, come calling, they would leave us just as fast as they would leave the AAC. And I think they will be #16 in the ACC...they do too, so they're not going to risk their football program when they need it to look good so Clemson and Florida State don't veto them again.

And if UConn never does get the call up, we'll be here. Where else they going to go?

If they keep FB at FBS I agree, if they drop it to FCS then they definitely are worth it.

If UConn comes out publicly saying they want in the Big East, the Big East(and maybe moreso Fox) will have a real tough time saying no. Fox would put all sorts of pressure on the Big East. Esp if UConn agreed to go indy in football, with their tv rights going to Fox.

If UConn is invited to the Big East, they will just bring a scorned & bitter fanbase. No thanks.

Report: Fox and ESPN reluctant to Big 12 expansion plans

The Big 12 is set to make more money from its television contracts if it adds more teams. The financial aspect is the biggest reason the conference is looking to expand from 10 to 12 or even 14 teams.

However, the networks that pay those television contracts aren’t exactly excited to shill out the extra money to the Big 12. According to Sports Business Journal, Fox and ESPN “are digging in their heels against paying those kind of increases based on expansion with schools outside the Power Five.”

The original deals pay $2.6 billion over 13 years, or about $20 million per school annually. Expansion by two schools, theoretically, would force ESPN and Fox combined to pay an additional $40 million per year in rights fees. Expansion by four teams could mean another $80 million per year.

I just read that article.

Way to piss off your broadcast partner and virtually ensure dramatic change for yourself (Big XII) in 9 years. And I'm sure UC, UCONN, et al are feeling full of themselves at this point, now that they're publicly viewed as some wannabe midgets that are running around, clamoring for a lifeboat that doesn't want to be extended to them by the funding partner(s).

BTW, Burrito makes a very good point. As a Xavier fan, I can assure you that dealing with a delusional fan base can be both entertaining and annoying. I've actually been to The Boneyard off and on over the last few weeks and all I can say is "wow!" They are rather full of themselves over there. They've now whiffed through at least two major reshuffling episodes, but they still seem to think they warrant post facto charter membership in the B1G.

The business case for UCONN as part of the Big East, assuming other factors, is obvious, though most here agree that we are perfectly solid at remaining at our existing 10 members at this point. There would be that day-to-day reality of living with UCONN's fan base we're they ever to be invited in.

In the abstract, think of the Nissan commercial that is aired during college football season with the Heisman House. It's pretty comfortable and relaxed in there right now, with a bunch of guys who certainly have something very much in common. Then someone new and angry shows up with a door key.
